Chapter 270: The Instant My Aversion Turned into Rage!
<– Previous Chapter | Table of Contents | Next Chapter –>
When I got back to our rented plot of land after going on a shopping spree while effectively using Leemon’s antenna, that creepy guy was there!
Moreover he was trying to attack Shikibu and Ryoku.
*SNAAAAAAAAAAAAP*
My anger took precedence over my aversion to his lameness.
*
“Eat this, you shitty monsters!”
I stopped him from behind with my wooden sword as he was about to slash his sword down. He immediately froze while holding his sword aloft.
“What are you up to?”
As soon as I asked him in a low tone, my voice teeming with fury, he looked my way.
“Hmm? Aren’t you that porter of the waning S-Rank adventurer!?”
“So you say, but you piece of shit are no more than a measly, waning B-Rank adventurer, aren’t you? What’s with all the bragging about being the 『Next Gen S-Rank Adventurer』? Considering your crappy skills, you should keep it low as you’re just acting tough in your own little world.”
The waning B-Rank adventurer became bright red when he heard my sneering.
“…What was that!? Who do you think you are talking to!?”
“You, the crappy B-Rank adventurer in front of me right now. ――Small fry like you wouldn’t even reach C-Rank in the capital, I’m sure. You never went there, did you? You’ve stayed out here in the boons all the time and acted like the strongest since there’s no competition in this tiny place anyway, right, crappy B-Rank adventurer? I mean, seriously, giving yourself a nickname is already so pitiful that I’d kill myself if I were you. Sword is desperate for his nickname, which had been arbitrarily decided by other people, to not spread any further, and yet, you run around all over the place, announcing not only your own name but also that shitty nickname of yours in a frantic attempt to make people remember, aren’t you? What a pathetic loser you are, waning B-Rank adventurer.”
Rage dyed his face. As he was too angry, he apparently didn’t even realize that he could escape my sword’s restraint, if only he changed his stance. He was desperately trying to force me back while trembling all over.
“Shikibu, Ryoku, are you alright?”
“Ayessir!”
“Gichi gichi”
Both raised a leg. Even Shikibu! How adorable!
*
――And then Shikibu appealed to me, “Gichi gichi gichi.”
Hmm?
“You’re saying you’d have been okay as you could have enveloped him in your threads even before he would be able to hit you?”
“Given that I had deployed my magic elemental barrier, he would not have been able to damage either of us in the first place!” Ryoku supplemented.
“Hmm, I see. In short, you want to say that it was unnecessary for me to step in as he’s too weak anyway?”
“Ayessir!”
“Gichi gichi!”
Both raised a leg again.
“Whaaaat!? You assholes…there are limits to making fools out of other people! Remove this constraint and apologize by prostrating yourself in front of me! Otherwise, you will be sorry!”
“Haha,” I laughed scornfully, “You call me lightly pinning you down with a wooden stick, a constraint? What a bad joke. Still, if the people of the town saw you right now, they’d all roar in laughter. Look at yourself! Even though I’m merely holding you back with a stick, you’re quivering like a scared monster!”
I guffawed at him.
“Y-…You bastard! I’ll never forgive you!”
“I see. I guess I’ll kill you then.”
Upon my response, the waning B-Rank adventurer immediately trembled with a start.
“I’d like to erase one future problem, and killing you now is easy enough, so I suppose I’ll just do that.”
*
“W-Wait. I went too far.”
The crappy B-Rank adventurer suddenly made a 180° turn in attitude.
I laughed derisively at him, “How did you go too far? You believe that I possess the power of a porter, don’t you? Well, to be honest, I don’t really know the abilities of those porters, but going by the way you and Sword talk about them, they’re a common target of scorn and ridicule, right? Personally I believe that someone capable of following adventurers into dungeons while carrying their luggage without getting hit by any of the dungeon’s monsters or other enemies must be quite outstanding and powerful themselves.
――If you plan to ridicule me by only attacking the part of them having no offensive power, I’ll gladly show you just how much offensive power I possess. I’ll cut your torso in halves right now and here. The time for you to bid farewell from your lower half has come. Well, it’ll be an instant death, so you’ll be able to reunite with it in the netherworld very soon.”
He stopped me with a terribly panicked voice, “Wait! You’ll become a criminal, if you do anything like that!”
“Okay, so what about it?”
The loser B-Rank adventurer was lost for words.
“There’s no way that I’d care about something so insignificant, is there? And if I dislike it, I’ll destroy the royal palace and kill everyone in there, be it the king or his aide. Unfortunately for you, I’m not a porter with lacking offensive abilities. My occupation is that of a free adventurer, you see? For this reason, no one can restrain me. I can do whatever I like.”
Hearing that, the lamer apparently lost the power in his legs and sank to the ground. Accordingly I released the restraint.
I loosely waved my wooden sword around in front of his face.
“Look, I stopped your sword with this. An amazing, sharp blade, isn’t it? Though it’s made out of nothing but ordinary wood! Even Sword can cut rock with a wooden sword, if he feels like it. Of course, I can do the same. This is but a fraction of our true power as 【Allrounders】. Anyway, as punishment for having attacked Shikibu and Ryoku, I’ll torture you and then eventually slaughter you. From the beginning to the end, I’ll cut you into tiny pieces with my wooden sword…”
“Alright, and that’s the end.”
Once again, Sword appeared when things were getting good!
*
At once, I scowled at him intensely.
“Don’t stop me this time! This guy tried to attack Shikibu and Ryoku, okay!?” I spat out angrily.
However, Sword simply placed his hands on my hips and lifted me up.
“This guy wouldn’t have been able to put a single scratch on Shikibu or Ryoku. He’s far too weak, isn’t he? Even if he had fought Ryoku, Ryoku would have come out unhurt, and an Assassin Spider is fast enough to rival you n’ me.”
Oh, really?
When I looked at Shikibu and Ryoku, they were dancing. No wait, that’s their way of appealing how strong they are.
As it was way too adorable, I almost got a nosebleed.
…Or rather, Shikibu seems to consider Ryoku as a friend. They’re way too close.
“Baaaah…you keep popping up at the worst moments, you know? Do something about always arriving moments before I can get started on my fun time, will you? If you’d delayed your arrival by another five minutes, I’d have been able to enjoy myself a bit!”
“Please give it a rest. Teasin’ the weak isn’t great or ‘nythin’, ‘kay?”
Ugh, certainly, he got a point there.
As my cheeks expanded in a pout, Sword lowered me behind himself. Then he scratched his head and sighed deeply while looking down at the lamer B-Rank adventurer.
“…You’d have died for sure, if I hadn’t been in time, you know? Indra is a super sadist who loves to torture folks. You gave her a valid reason to torture you. …Why did you trespass into the plot of land I rented and tried to kill our tamed monster and the golem created by Indra? And don’t give me some lame excuse a la 『I found monsters here』. Indra and I have been takin’ the Ryokus with us wherever we went ever since arrivin’ at this town, and you’ve witnessed that as well.
Shikibu…the violet one over there hasn’t moved from this place. He’s been merely helpin’ out by guardin’ the folks hired by Indra. Since he’s smart enough to understand us, he won’t attack other people indiscriminately. Anyway, I s’pose you simply marched in here and tried to kill ’em under the pretext of ’em bein’ monsters for the sake of pullin’ off some bullshit as you were jealous of my gaudy title. That sort of crap doesn’t work with us, you lil’ fucker.”
After rattling all of that down in one go, he grabbed the collar of the crappy B-Rank adventurer and tossed him away. The lamer drew a neat parabola, before landing inside a garbage dump a few dozen meters away.
