Imperial Calendar – Year 430, Beginning of December

When Chrono headed over to the training ground, Mino was just in the middle of hurling abuse at the new recruits.

The minotaur seemed like a pillar of support under the current circumstances and Chrono wanted to rush over right away, but he pretended to be calm, walking up to Mino.

Thereupon, Mino apparently noticed Chrono from his side, stopped insulting the newcomers, and rushed over instead.

“Captain, somethin’ the matter?”

“A Call to the Arms has arrived from the capital. It’s telling me to take 500 soldiers as we’ll be in charge of the supplies.”

“The opponent is goin’ to be Argo?”

Chrono nodded. The letter mentioned that eight half-battalions and moreover the Imperial Knight Orders would be mobilized. The Imperial Knights were the elites of the Empire’s army. They wouldn’t be mobilized for just anything. It basically meant the Empire was serious about this.

“Have they told us anythin’ ’bout the date?”

“We’re to convene in Noji by mid December.”

“Quite the tight schedule. In that case, we’ve got only two to three days until we gotta head out.”

Mino furrowed his eyebrows doubtfully. And Chrono could only agree that this was rather abrupt.

“I know how you feel, but let’s leave the investigation as to what’s going on here for later. For now, we have to concentrate on ourselves.”

“Gotcha,” Mino nodded.

He took out a magic communicator from his pocket

“Layla, I’m goin’ to talk with Lord Chrono. I leave the rest to ye.”

『……Roger』

Layla’s voice answered through the magic communicator after a short moment.

“Okay, let’s go then.”

“Is it okay to not hand over things properly?”

“If I leave things to Layla, she’ll handle things nicely for me. By the way, are we goin’ to be the only ones discussin’ this?”

“Mr. Sitter is going to join us, I guess. Also, I’d like to hold another meeting in the evening. Would that be okay for you?”

“I think we can set some of the schedule until then, so yeah.”

Chrono was relieved to hear that. But, of course, now wasn’t the time to merely feel relieved. From now on they’d need to set the schedule, visit various places related to this, and discuss things with the people over there. Moreover, he had to decide who would serve as his deputy while they were absent from the fief.

Chrono braced himself and started to walk.
