Chapter 23 – Brief Separation

T/N: Sneak switching from the WN to the LN from this point. Like I did with D-Genesis back then. No big differences so far. Just different terms and I think one explanation was moved backwards.
Today I saw Satoha off in a gentle atmosphere, completely different from the one when we met for the first time. Thinking that we should break up for the moment now that we finished talking, we were currently standing at the entrance door of my home.
“I have a different place where I stay, so goodbye for now,” she said to me while looking ahead after putting on her boots and tapping the floor with the tips.
“Please call me whenever you dive into a C-Class dungeon. I think you alone will suffice more than enough to handle a dungeon below that in rank. In reality, I’d like to accompany you to those as well, but it’s not like I’m on vacation either.”
“Got it. Do you have some sort of job lined up?”
“…I need to investigate that serial murderer woman and the crystal she had on her. Because of that, there might be times when you won’t be able to contact me either.”
The instant Satoha opened the sliding door, about to step outside, she stopped, having noticed that she forgot to tell me something, and retrieved an object from the hem of her clothes.
“Hiro, as a matter of fact, it was planned for me to get in contact with you since you’re a magic sword wielding player, even before you had your battle with that serial killer.”
What she was holding in her hand was similar to a portable smartphone charger. It was a black object and had a hole to plug in a cord, but I didn’t understand why she was giving this to me, resulting in me being confused.
“This is something called 『Box Device』. To explain it simply, it is a device specialized to store items from the Fold which have been stored in a smartphone. I’m sure your smartphone should be filled with the items you obtained in the dungeon a little while ago. Please store this Box Device in your smartphone after swapping all the items you don’t wish to sell to the management.
Also…if you happen to obtain things like weapons or armor, it might be smart to store them away in this. After all, it’s extremely difficult to discover such items in the Fold, regardless of what ability they might have. In other words, demand is much higher than supply.”
Once she had turned back towards me, she kept talking, “Ah, right. Right now you can only sell items at the lowest price decided by the management’s classification, but once the market function has been implemented, it will become possible to trade between players. I think you can earn a lot more DC at such a time.”
DC. At present one DC is exchanged for 150 Yen.
“…How much would I originally get for my Dragon Eater?”
“Magic Swords are treated as weapons. You have only been shown the lowest value for the weapon type, but I think your item will be evaluated to be worth a lot more. Leaving aside whether the management could actually pay for it, but the real value should at least reach the price of a warship.”
“…I don’t plan to sell it.”
“Yeah, I thought as much.”
Maybe it’s her personality, but she had been talking politely all the time. Just this comment alone was said with a casual tone. I became unable to take my eyes off her giggling smile which I was able to see for the first time since she came to my home.
“Okay, thank you very much for today. See you again soon. Today you cleared a vortex and fought against me, so please take plenty of rest. Or in other words, please take it easy for today.”
Her figure was illuminated from behind by the madder red of the sinking sun. She, who had been the first visitor to this house in a good while, was about to leave. It was just the time when children would come back home.
Somehow today was a very dense day. I learned too many new things and everything she told me was so unbelievable that any normal person would immediately disregard it as nonsense.
But, I’m using Dungeon Seekers and she’s definitely crazy strong as Occult Slayer.
Most likely everything she’s told me is true. I still don’t understand many things about the details of Dungeon Seekers, but I’ve understood its objective and reason for existing. But, even after having heard all of it, it’s not like it changed any of my plans. I’m simply going to enjoy myself by clearing all the dungeons in this city.
Given that she left now, I want to look at the items and stats after I cleared the dungeon. I couldn’t do that before while she was here.
With that decided, I returned to my own room and opened Dungeon Seekers.

I was deeply moved to see how my skills and titles have so significantly grown in number. My level went up quite a bit as well, but compared to the beginning, the leveling rate has clearly slowed down. The new title 『A Match for a Thousand』 seems to be given to one who gains a perfect victory against an army. It appears I got it for having overrun the ants.
Once I switched to the skill screen, a skill called 『Galloping Rider』 has been unlocked, just like 『Usurpator』 had unlocked 『Flying Banner of Revolt』. 1.
In addition, I got a pop-up saying that it’s possible to Optimize. While confused, I pressed the help mark over the new information that hadn’t been included in the manual.
『?』 for Optimization
It’s one of the three types 『Develop – Optimize – Evolve』 of skill customization. Optimization allows you to combine several skills or titles into one skill. Depending on the optimization, it’s also possible to discover new skills.

“…Guess I’ll ask Satoha about this later on.”
But, now that I had checked the help function, I felt it was beneficial to go through with this. As such, I pressed the Optimize button.
A loading screen was displayed, devoid of any flashy effects. Afterwards, I felt my heart beat hard once again, before the information of the new skill was displayed on the screen.
NEW 『Long-Cherished Desire of a Samurai』
The noble mindset of honoring the challenge over overcoming predicaments and desiring to make a name for yourself on the battlefield. In addition to basic Hand-to-Hand Combat, you possess a high aptitude to fight while wearing katana and armor.
“O-…Ooh?”
I have been fighting while holding a katana, but I didn’t anticipate that there would come a day when I’d be called a samurai for real. But, judging based on the term Occult Slayer, DS and its features have been developed by Japanese people, so it might have been influenced by that.
Either way, I’m happy since it doesn’t seem to be weak. It’s probably best to optimize whatever I can in the future.
Additionally, I opened the item list while picking up the Box Device I got from Satoha.
