Chapter 1 – Vegetable Garden
<– Previous Chapter | Table of Contents | Next Chapter –>
A little while had passed since the whole uproar in Charis.
Probably because it put quite a burden on the demon queen, her big ranged spells weren’t fired a second time after she had roughly targeted the capitals of all nations, or so I heard. If I believe Edita-sensei’s words, things should probably be alright for some time.
However, that still doesn’t mean that the offensive actions of the demons have ceased. The neighboring countries were still getting invaded by the demon queen and they seem to be extremely busy. I heard beings called demons, who led lesser demons, started to appear all over the place, putting the nations in quite a bind.
Thanks to that, humanity is recently stuck in an end-of-civilization scenario. The letters frequently being sent to Richard-san thoroughly record the situations in the various nations, such as news about the northern major power having formed a demon queen subjugation force or the southern countries, which lost their military balance after getting hit by the demon queen’s attacks, getting embroiled in a war.
The international situation seemed to be as strained as never before.
However, contrary to the world going haywire, Dragon City was a town of bliss. At one point we allowed an invasion by lesser demons, resulting in battles occurring inside the city. But, that’s already a matter of the past. Nowadays, the nui, who accumulated training in group combat, are dealing with such attacks safely. I don’t remember having explicitly asked them to do this, but according to the Loligon, they appear to be doing it for us on their own accord.
When I occasionally walk through the city, I run into plenty of fluffy nui gathering and running about briskly for some reason. They’re popular among the citizens for their cute appearance and people will suddenly gather out of nowhere whenever they spot the nui doing special training. Moreover, it’ll usually take on the character of an event site where people will successively start providing them with food and stuff.
“Umm, Tanaka-san, about this document here…”
“Ah, yes.”
At present, this ordinary Japanese flat-face and Maid-san are alone together inside the office of the mayor’s mansion. While being next to Sophia-chan who was sitting at a desk, I was receiving an explanation about the city’s financial situation.
Recently she’s become completely used to doing calculations and even the accounting checkers under Ester-chan’s hire, who take care of our books once a month, praise her quite a lot. At least when it comes to the city’s financial affairs, I don’t seem to be necessary as long as she’s around.
With such circumstances contributing as well, this ordinary Japanese flat-face has been able to concentrate on the city building. The city’s size is steadily growing and if we continue at this rate, the day when we exceed the city of Trichuris, the neighboring city ruled by Ester-chan, might not be that far off.
“Come to think of it, about the food for the new arrivals…”
For a while I enjoyed Sophia-chan’s upper boobs from right next to her. There’s no time as soothing for this busamen as this.
But, such opportunities will be interrupted by a third party in most cases. Today was no exception to this rule, seeing how I could hear lively footsteps from the corridor on the other side of the door. Someone was heading towards this office, drawing closer at a quick rate.
There’s no mistaking these unique footsteps.
The other party showed up at the same time as the door was slammed open.
『Oiii! Is that guy in here!?』
It was our mayor, Loligon.
“What is the matter, Christina-san?”
『Ah, there you are!』
She walked up to this ordinary Japanese flat-face after spotting him in the office. Planting herself right in front of the desk, she looked up to this busamen.
Now that it’s come to this, it’s time to bid farewell from Maid-san’s upper boobs.
『Say, are there no field in this city?』
“Fields?”
She started to talk about some nonsensical stuff again. Guessing from her dusty dress, she must have come straight to this office from the city building site. She might have received some sort of inspiration from the members of the Twilight Troupe who have become her co-workers. Considering how long she’s been alive, she’s quite susceptible to getting influenced by her surroundings. That honest side of her is troubling for being so damn adorable.
『That’s right. Fields! Humans cannot produce food without fields, correct?』
“We’re procuring produce from outside, so it’s not that much of a problem.”
『……Eh? Is that so?』
“Neumann-san calculates the necessary amount of food every month and Sophia-san orders that amount from the merchants. Thanks to that, we have been able to run a city in such a small territory without having to avail land for fields.”
『But, I hear humans are in a bind without fields…』
“All of this is a result of Richard-san’s kindness, though.”
『……』
Loligon’s eyes wandered to Maid-san. She donned a somewhat dissatisfied expression while staring at Maid-san. Because of that, Maid-san trembled in fear.
“U-Umm, is there something w-wrong…?”
『……We’re not going to create fields?』
The Loligon appears to be eager to cultivate fields. Don’t tell me she didn’t only awaken to public works and construction, but even farming?
This ordinary Japanese flat-face feels like her senses are gradually starting to become less like those of a dragon and at the same time he experiences a sense of impending danger for some reason.
“T-Tanaka-san…”
Maid-san stared at me pleadingly.
Fields were unnecessary in today’s Dragon City. We have been making enough profit with secondary and tertiary industries. Also, the Tanaka Earldom is tiny, so it’ll be difficult to secure the land needed for agriculture. Therefore, it’s more efficient to import all of the grain we need rather than having some half-assed fields.
But, this time Dragon City’s scale has increased and if you consider situations where the territory would grow in order to match that, it’s definitely not a bad idea to inform our mayor about the methods of farming.
The height of the threshold for constructing buildings intended for farm work is yet on an entirely different level. Personally I think the Loligon’s affinity for farm work might not be overly good. For this very reason, I believe it’s one of the matters I ought to leave in her hands during my lifetime. The suggestion from her might actually be a good opportunity.
“Hmm, let’s see. Maybe we should cultivate a field as a test?”
『Seriously!?』
“However, we’d be in a bind if things fail after we suddenly go all-in on a large-scale farm land cultivation, so let us first start with an experimental field in the courtyard of this mansion. It will be set up as a test farm to learn about the quality of the soil around here and I’d like you, Mayor, to take care of its management.”
『I see! If you say you will make it, I-I will help you!』
The Loligon was awfully cute as she started to fidget around, obviously being all excited. Her eyes were sparkling.
“Thank you very much. As long as I have your assistance, Christina-san, it will be a tremendous help.”
『gh…W-Well, that’s only natural! After all is said and done, I’m still the mayor! The mayor!』
“……”
Maid-san directed an uneasy look at me. It’s not like I don’t understand her worries.
If you asked this busamen whether he feels unsure about the Loligon, the most hot-blooded being even in Dragon City, being able to patiently wait until the harvest of crops, it’d be a lie if he answered no there. We should use crops that ripen as quickly as possible for the field.
“Sophia-san, please forgive me, but I will be leaving with the mayor.”
“Ah, o-okay!”
This ordinary Japanese flat-face left the office together with the Loligon after notifying Maid-san.
*
The courtyard of the mayor’s mansion was quite spacious. After all, we had designed it after taking into account that the Loligon could land and take-off from here in her dragon form. Thanks to this, it was usually used by everyone for their own convenience, like Gon-chan swinging his ax around in the name of training or sensei running to lose some weight after overeating once again.
We decided to use a section of this big plot for the mayor’s kitchen garden. By applying the public works techniques we fostered during the pioneering of Dragon City, the Loligon’s field was finished in no time. Albeit small, we managed to create a functional farm field that even incorporated drainage. Its appearance was also neat and trim. It had the same vibe as the flowerbed which I built in a corner of my elementary school’s yard. We limited its size to a few dozen square meters as it’d become too hard to manage it properly if it became too big. In the first place, this was intended to check the quality of the soil.
At first the mayor looked rather displeased about the snugly and small feel of the field, but once she saw the finished product, she seemed to actually be satisfied with it. Following the pretext of an experimental field, we tilled the soil in the courtyard and decided to use it without adding any external soil.
Given that the whole region is a grassland area, I believe that crops and other produce will grow here to a certain extent. Despite that, I asked Maid-san to order fertilizer for us. Recently the number of merchants frequenting Dragon City has increased, so it’ll probably be delivered in a few days.
『This is a human field, huh!?』
“Yes, that is indeed the case.”
The Loligon cheerfully cried out while also confirming that we completed the experimental field. Even though both her hands were dirty with soil, she didn’t look like she minded it at all. It was lovely that some mud was also stuck to her cheeks. This sort of natural side of the Loligon makes me somehow feel extremely vexed as I honestly get an urge to rape her. The desire to squeeze her tightly from behind gives me a sense of defeat.
『It’s a bit small, but it still feels kinda like a field!』
“I think this is more than big enough for experimental farming.”
『S-So, what are we going to grow in this place!? Tubers? Leaves?』
“Let’s see…”
I had decided on using plants that grow fast, but I didn’t think about the concrete specimen.
Or rather, this yellow flat-face doesn’t know anything about the agricultural produce in this world over here. Because of that, he’s now struggling with how to answer.
Because the mayor was looking at me with a shining face, her eyes sparkling full of expectations, I hesitated to deceive her with some random answer.
What should I do? How troublesome.
As I was thinking it over from various angles, the right person in the right place showed up…
“You people, what are you doing over there?”
…Edita-sensei.
Spotting us being dirty with soil on the courtyard, she briskly walked over to us. It looked like she woke up just recently as her silky, blond hair was clearly disarranged and messy. Sensei struggled with waking up in the morning more than anyone else, but I feel like this has become even more prominent recently.
I’m sure she’s been up until late in the night yesterday, doing research on magic or something like that.
“Oh, Edita-san, as you can see, I have created a field with the mayor.”
“…A field?”
“We thought we should investigate the soil in this area in light of the city’s future.”
This busamen is sure that our smart sensei knows one or two things about plants suitable for this land and the local climate. Hence he took advantage of her appearance and explained the situation. Speaking of edible vegetation that I have confirmed around, purple chive would appear the best option in my personal opinion.
“I see.”
『Heheen, how about this? It’s amazing, right?』
“As you can see, I was born in another country and thus my perception doesn’t work overly well when it comes to this land. If you like, could you teach us about produce suitable for the climate over here?”
“Hmm, sure. If it’s that much…”
Sensei revealed a brooding face after hearing the question from this ordinary Japanese flat-face.
My blond, thicc, loli sensei, who would seriously consider even such an extremely random topic that was brought up in passing, is a very softhearted person. Thanks to that, I want to propose to her. I want to be married to her for the rest of my life.
Several names of plants immediately left her cute mouth. All of them sounded completely new and foreign to me.
Together with the mayor, this busamen took the liberty to listen to all of this with a meek expression on his face.
“…and if y-you use those plants, I t-think they’ll adapt to the c-climate over here as well.”
“Thank you very much. As expected of you, Edita-san. It was very informative.”
“T-This much is nothing s-special. Any regional farmer probably k-knows this much. Rather, the members of the Twilight Troupe might be able to give you even better advice than I can.”
“In that case, I will later check back with them as well.”
*
Later on the same day, around the time when the sun had sunken beyond the horizon, this ordinary Japanese flat-face visited Goggoru-chan’s place. Currently she has taken up residence in the middle section of Loligon Tower.
Given that I took the liberty to help her out in various ways during the reconstruction, I also remembered the arrangement of the rooms. Right now I’m sitting at a table in a terrace-like place facing outside the tower.
Even if you could describe it as a medium section of the tower, it’s quite high up in the sky, so it has an outlook similar to a restaurant that has been set up on the highest floor of a high-class hotel. Even the mayor’s mansion with its considerable scale looks like nothing more than a nail on the moon-flooded ground far below.
Thanks to this altitude, it’s a superb view. The tea I’m enjoying while gazing at the star-littered sky is very luxurious. I’m feeling a lot closer to the sky compared to looking up from the ground.
As for the reason for my visit, it has become a daily routine for me to have a talk with Goggoru-chan. For a period of time I often forgot to visit her, using my busyness as an excuse, but recently I’ve been coming here every day.
And today I brought up the mayor’s farm field as the topic of our conversation. Because I’ve been involved in creating it myself, I started to talk about it before I noticed.
“…Field?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
The dark-brown lolita tilted her head in confusion.
It’s not like I don’t know where she’s coming from. If you talk about dragons, you usually would imagine a carnivore. As such, you’d expect a dragon’s daily meals to consist of hunted wild game. Even this ordinary Japanese flat-face was surprised when he heard about a field for the first time.
“Do you also have some interest in fieldwork, Rocoroco-san?”
“Not really.”
“Is that so?”
“Yep.”
It sounds like Goggoru-chan isn’t that interested in fields. Even when I was living on the Dark Continent, I couldn’t spot any fields around my cave. I’m sure she must have survived through hunting and gathering. In the first place, the idea of cultivating fields in a place that’s overrun with monsters, demons, and other hostile beings would be challenging, to say the least.
“Christina-san has been quite keen on putting this into practice, so…”
Since it’s a rare chance, this ordinary Japanese flat-face will allow himself to inform Goggoru-chan about today’s state of our mayor. Usually Goggoru-chan doesn’t leave the tower much, if at all, so this busamen is convinced she cherishes all the information about the city’s residents he provides. This ordinary Japanese flat-face shall brief her on everything, down to the last detail.
I’ll be happy if it becomes a potential topic the next time those two meet.
“…With all that said, we plan to sow the seeds in the near future.”
“What seeds?”
“We are still considering it. Right now we are at the stage of gathering opinions.”
“…I see.”
“If you have any plants you would like to grow, please tell me, Rocoroco-san. Since we have set it up as an experimental field, we plan to try growing various plants on it. The idea is to investigate suitable crops while checking the quality of the soil around here.”
“Something edible?”
“No, I don’t think you need to limit yourself to only edible plants.”
I think expensive plants like medical plants used for potions or fragrant herbs used by nobles or wealthy merchants would also have value in being cultivated, besides vegetables. Personally I would like to grow grass that will make Goggoru-chan feel horny.
“……”
“I have already heard from Edita-san about several breeds and we plan to order some seeds and so on soon. I believe the planting will take place in a few days, so if you like, how about planting them together with us?”
“…Alright.”
“Is that so? Please feel free to tell me, if anything comes to mind.”
“Understood.”
As I was talking with Goggoru-chan, I suddenly thought: contrary to the Loligon who was thinking of the city’s self-sufficiency in regards to food, I was thinking that growing plants with high additional value would be a lot more beneficial. I’m sure, this is the same in any world.
However, compared to modern Japan, this world over here is much more unstable. Moreover, now that the demon queen has appeared on the stage, thinking in such a profit-oriented way might be quite dangerous instead. Assuming the Loligon brought up the talk about a field after having considered the possible dangers henceforth, this busamen should probably reflect deeply on his insincere thinking.
She has been considering the issues of the city and its people a lot more than me.
“The field will be a repentance?”
“Yes, I’m made to realize various things whenever I’m acting together with her.”
The Loligon always does everything in a primitive way while using her full power, now matter what she has to do, so she naturally gives you a strong impression. Thanks to that, it never gets boring with her. On the other hand, there are times when it becomes so busy that it’s a trouble, but I never have a real issue with that.
“……”
“Of course, I also enjoy my conversations with you, Rocoroco-san.”
“…Somehow very random.”
“That is absolutely not the case.”
I feel my heart getting soothed by being able to have a quiet and relaxed chat like this with you, Goggoru-chan. At the same time, I also end up getting horny and the sensation of my sympathetic nerves and my parasympathetic nerve starting to duke it out is a very pleasant experience.
“I have fully understood the matter with the field. Let’s talk about something else.”
“Rocoroco-san, do you dislike fields and farm work?”
This became yet another opportunity to once again consider the consultation this ordinary Japanese flat-face received from the Loligon. For him this was an important time he wouldn’t want to exchange for anything else.
“…Not really.”
“I understand. Then, instead…”
For a while after that we continued talking while gazing at the night sky.
*
Several days have passed since we set up the Loligon’s vegetable garden in the courtyard of the mayor’s mansion. As for the plants intended for cultivation, I got a briefing by my blond, thicc, loli sensei about various breeds, which I then had Gon-chan order for us. We finished planting all of them just two days ago.
Now, two nights later, new, tiny sprouts with leaves were plastering the field in front of us.
『H-Hey! Look! They have sprouted, haven’t they?!』
“Yes, so it would seem.”
In fixed intervals fresh and green sprouts were forming rows in the section with the soil that had been neatly tilled into 凹凸凹 arrays. The sprouts still had the size of a finger tip, but the seeds had budded properly. Seeing these troopers having already made their appearance, it looks like we can expect the other plants to soon follow.
『All of it is owed to my meticulous, careful care-taking!』
Because of this, the Loligon was extremely happy. She has literally attended to the field day and night over the last two days. She provided the seeds with the whole program, ranging from watering and applying fertilizer to standing guard. Whenever I happened to look in the courtyard, the Loligon was always present in front of the vegetable garden.
I believe she might have lived a relatively long life, but this might be her first time to have experienced the cultivation of plants. Thinking back on it now, even when she was constructing the buildings during our city-building phase, she had revealed the same lively smile.
Maybe because of that, I had the strange idea that dragons might unexpectedly spend most of their time in boredom as long as they live as dragons. Or in other words, I suppose living a very long life means getting used to such days.
『When will it be possible to eat these?』
“Let’s see…”
After being asked, I checked the nameplate. The plants which budded today are similar to radish. Going by Gon-chan’s explanation, it might be possible to harvest them one month after their budding at the earliest.
Yet, I was worried whether the impatient Loligon would be able to hold out so long. However, when I honestly explained this part to her, her reply was surprisingly tame.
『Hmm? They grow big rather quickly, don’t they?』
“It’s because we have chosen that type of breed.”
Even though it’s her first time doing farmwork, she seems to have a reasonable amount of knowledge about plants. Seeing this, it appears like I’ll actually be able to learn a lot from this experimental farm. Of course, it also has the side of being Loligon’s hobby, but at the same time, it’s a very rare chance to learn about the vegetation of this world.
『I must take care of them everyday so that they become big and strong!』
“Yes, that is right.”
As I was gazing at her innocent smile, I recalled the sunflower cultivation I experienced during elementary school. Each student prepared one pot and we all planted our seed in spring. During summer vacation, we took the pot together with the flower back home to take care of it.
“Oh, are you at it again, Mayor-san?”
Gon-chan showed up as we were talking while gazing at the vegetable garden. A big, bulging jute bag was dangling from his hand.
『What? D-Did you possibly came here to look at my field?』
“I brought refreshments from everyone at the troupe.”
『…Refreshments?』
He dropped the bag at our feet with a thud. Once he untied the string at its opening, I could look inside to see what was waiting beyond. It was tightly packed with something akin to crumbly soil.
“Is this bone powder?”
“Most recently, lesser demons have started to appear all over the place, right? The nui eat the meat, but their bones are left behind nonetheless. I tried to make it while using the scraps remaining from back then. If you like, how about using it?”
“That is very forthcoming of you. Thank you kindly.”
『…Is that fertilizer?』
“I’d say so. As long as you have this here, plenty of veggies will sprout and grow into big plants.”
『All sort of preparations seem to be necessary for managing a field, huh…?』
The Loligon thrust a hand into the bag and touched the bone powder with an interested look.
I don’t know what nutrients the plants of this world require to grow stalks and leaves. I’m not even certain whether the concept of organic and inorganic matters exists. However, as far as I’ve heard from Gon-chan, it doesn’t seem like the vegetation over here differs overly much from my Earth knowledge.
———– End of Part 2 ———–
“If we manage to achieve self-sufficiency in food, we’ll become able to allot the funds for food procurement elsewhere. In this sense, the mayor’s field counts as something of utmost importance which will influence the city’s future.”
『gh…』
Hearing Gon-chan’s assessment, the Loligon’s eyebrows twitched. She probably feels a significant amount of pressure weighing down on her now. Gon-chan, on the other hand, probably intended to say this as a light joke, but the one on the receiving end was alternately looking back and forth between the jute bag with the bone powder and the vegetable garden with a fairly serious expression.
As this was going on, a voice joined the fray from yet another direction.
“Ooooooooooooooooooooohohohohohohohohohoh!”
Hearing that characteristic, loud laughter, everyone focused their attention towards the source of it. Thereupon, we spotted Drill-chan walking towards us after apparently having arrived here without anyone noticing. Next to her was Deviant-Longhair. Very likely she didn’t know what to do with herself as she was too bored and thus came here after spotting us gathered in the courtyard.
“The last few days you have been rather restless for some reason. Is that the cause behind it all?”
『Hey, I’m gonna kill you, if you devastate the field, you know?』
“I-I won’t do anything like that! I just came here to see what is going on, okay!?”
It was cute to see Drill-chan clearly show on her face that she was quite scared after having the Loligon glare at her quite profusely. I guess she’s still having difficulties dealing with the Loligon. I mean, in the past our mayor blasted away her castle right in front of her nose.
However, Drill-chan’s style of actively approaching the Loligon like that, despite their past, gives her a lot of plus points with this ordinary Japanese flat-face. Moreover, because she’s still a virgin, this busamen wants to marry her by all means possible.
“Geros!”
“Yes, Milady!”
In the middle of watching over Gon-chan and this busamen, Drill-chan made a new move. Hearing her commanding tone, Deviant-Longhair took something out of his pocket.
It was a three to four centimeter big, cleanly-cut gem. Gleaming with a green radiance, its appearance reminded one of an emerald. Taking it out of her underling’s hand, Drill-chan triumphantly held it out in Loligon’s direction.
『…Oi, what’s this?』
“It’s a present from me to you, mayor.”
『A present?』
The Loligon tilted her head in confusion as she gazed at the gem after accepting it. The one showing a reaction to it in her stead was Gon-chan.
“Oh, wow. Incredible. That’s one awesome green magic stone.”
Apparently it’s a magic stone. I happened to hear that term in the past as well. If I remember correctly, it’s used to power airships and stuff.
Nonetheless, this ordinary Japanese flat-face doesn’t quite understand why it would make an appearance here at this point in time.
『A magic stone filled with magic elements as they’re liked by the spirits inhabiting the ground, huh?』
“If you bury that stone in the field’s soil, the crops will likely grow up with ease. However, under normal circumstances, it’s an item you’d use to grow some of the more expensive plants. With such a size, that gem must be a high-class item. Wouldn’t it be enough to pay for the construction of a reasonable house in Charis?” Gon-chan explained to this ordinary Japanese flat-face and the Loligon.
Doesn’t that make the gem a crazy expensive item?
『I see. I can borrow the power of the spirits…?』
“I won’t say it’s impossible, but I don’t mind you using it as you please.”
Personally, it sounds like a rather questionable item. Why would the growth of produce be accelerated by simply burying a gem in the ground?
But, this here is a fantasy world of sword and magic. Let’s interpret this as such things being possible as well. The Loligon also mentioned spirits. As I thought, isekai farming seems dangerous for me to challenge with just my own knowledge.
“That’s all I wanted to say, okay? Well then, I will excuse myself at this point.”
Having handed over what she wanted to hand over, Drill-chan gallantly turned on her heels. It looks like she really came here just to give the Loligon that gem.
Deviant-Longhair reacted to his mistress’s movements, silently following her. Even though he usually nitpicks quite persistently, he readily draws back only at times like this. He’s quite cunning as it makes him look extremely cool.
“Well then, I suppose I’ll go back to work as well then.”
Imitating the two, Gon-chan also started to walk away. Watching all of this unfold, the Loligon spoke up.
『H-Hey, wait a moment!』, she loudly roared at the two who had turned their backs on her just moments ago.
Hearing this, all of them stopped, looking back over their shoulders.
“What’s the matter?”
“Is something wrong?”
Looking somewhat embarrassed, the mayor addressed Gon-chan and Drill-chan, 『…I-If I manage to grow veggies, I’ll let you eat them!』
“Oh, I’m looking forward to that.”
“I’m very interested in vegetables grown by a dragon.”
The Loligon’s squishy cheeks seemed to have faintly dyed red. The smooth response of the two to that lovely behavior was extremely impressive. I feel like this would make for a perfect picture. I felt my heart, which had been damaged by the noble life in Charis, being healed.
『Okay, then I will also go to work on the city building!』
“I understand. Thank you for always providing your assistance in this.”
『I-It’s nothing special. This much is only natural for a mayor! Yep, for a mayor!』
As if following the other two, the Loligon also left the courtyard. Her figure as she briskly pitter-pattered along while cheerfully wagging her tail quickly disappeared from sight at the end of the outer passageway. Given that this ordinary Japanese flat-face planned to do paperwork at his office afterwards, he quietly saw her off.
Thereupon Edita-sensei showed up as if to replace the Loligon. She was walking through the outer passageway that faced the courtyard in the same way as the one the Loligon used to leave, just on the opposite side. Noticing this busamen standing in front of the vegetable garden, she walked over.
“Oh, what a pleasure to meet you here, Edita-san. You woke up quite early today.”
Sensei would usually sleep until afternoon, so it was odd for her to be up and about around this time. Probably because of that, her face looked cross. Dark rings adorned her eyes and she looked quite listless and unmotivated.
“I didn’t get any sleep last night…”
“An all-nighter? If you are fine with me, I will provide some help.”
“…Ah, no, that’s not it.”
“Meaning?”
“Haven’t you been hearing strange noises during the night over the last few days?”
“Noise?”
“Y-Yeah. It’s happening late at night, though.”
She was kindly staring at this busamen with a grave look on her face. But, he had no clue.
Speaking of interesting noises, I’d say it’d be the loud laughter of Drill-chan I can occasionally hear. However, that’s a transient occurrence and if I consider that a hymen is still protecting her vagina, the sound source feels like nothing more than a cricket’s chirping at night in autumn. In short, it’s something truly tasteful.
“…Is that possibly Doris-san’s loud laughter?”
“N-No, I’ve grown a-accustomed to that person’s laughter. It’s a n-noise that is more ordinary.”
“Meaning…?”
“It’s similar to the rustling when people or animals move around.”
“I see.”
In that case, I have no idea whatsoever. The only thing coming to mind would be the nightly, extracurricular lessons by the members of Team Orgy. However, their room is quite far away from Edita-sensei’s. I doubt their noise would reach her.
“I’m sorry, but I cannot think of anything in particular…”
“…Okay.”
Once I answered honestly, sense dropped her head in disappointment. She looked very miserable. I can’t feel any of her usual spunk.
It appears Edita-sensei is plagued by noise damage. In such a case, I cannot afford to not counsel her. As someone who used to live in a city apartment within densely populated Japan, sound and despair are two sides of the same coin.
No matter how outstanding a character, you cannot help but to be affected by it.
“If you are fine with me, I would like to give you my advice.”
“N-No, it’s nothing so s-serious. Excuse m-me for bothering you.”
However, sensei calmly declined my offer. Then she totteringly left the courtyard. Her figure as she walked with her shoulders dropped looked strangely impressive to me. I didn’t expect Edita-sensei’s curled, powerless back to look so adorable to me.
Let’s give this whole matter a light examination in due time.
*
【Sophia-chan’s Point of View】
One day this maid was on the way back to her room after having enjoyed a late bath. At that point, night had already advanced quite a bit, making it a time frame when the mansion’s hallways would usually be deserted.
But, because I could use the bath basically all for myself at such late hours, it was a very nice experience. I unconsciously ended up having a long and relaxed bath.
As such I was walking through the outer hallway facing the courtyard so as to cool down my flushed body. However, suddenly I could hear someone’s voice.
“Ugh! So unexpectedly quick!”
The tone of the voice belonged to Elf-san. Naturally I directed my focus towards the voice.
“……”
Therefore I barely managed to spot someone jumping out of the building’s window at the corner of my eyes. The long, glossy blond hair, which was illuminated by the light leaking out of the room behind the window, couldn’t be mistaken for its owner. The small figure kicked off the window’s frame, rapidly flying towards the courtyard. At the same time, a magic circle appeared at her hand.
I wonder what’s going on? She seems to be using magic.
In no time, small, icicle-like objects were shot out of the magic circle.
Among the people living in this mansion, Elf-san was the one with the gentlest and most peaceful character, and thus her actions now were all the more surprising.
Just what the heck did happen? If this was Dragon-san, it’s not like I couldn’t have understood, though.
“Ah…”
Immediately following, I could hear a somewhat befuddled voice. Elf-san had gently landed on the ground and was now staring at a part of the courtyard while dumbfounded.
If this maid’s memory serves her right, Dragon-san should have built a small field in that part of the courtyard just recently.
As I had also helped with its creation. my feet started to naturally move.
“…Umm,” I took the liberty to humbly call out to Elf-san.
“gh!?”
Elf-san’s back trembled with a start. But, immediately afterwards, she whirled around to me. Even within the darkness of night, her face felt flustered by the hard reality.
You’re a very honest person, so your emotions easily show on your face, Elf-san.
“W-What are you d-doing here at such a l-late hour!?”
“Well, you see, I spotted you on my way back from taking a bath, so…”
“I see. You were on your way back from a bath, huh!? W-Won’t you feel c-cold, if you take s-such a round trip? It’s hard to see w-where you’re going in such d-darkness as well, so it’s dangerous t-to walk around like that. I think i-it would be best for you to g-go back to your room and go to sleep in y-your warm bed!”
She was very flustered. To be honest here, it makes me curious. However, seeing her fretting around so frantically, I would feel guilty for being unreasonable, too.
This maid usually received a lot of favors from her, so it might be correct to pretend to not have seen anything.
“…Very well, umm, good night to you.”
“Yeah! See you tomorrow!”
Once this maid bowed alongside telling her goodbye, Elf-san saw her off while waving her hand vigorously. Eventually, this maid’s steps led her back towards the outer hallway facing the courtyard, allowing her to hear Elf-san’s voice in the distance.
“Shit, just where did it go? If it was daytime, I could likely find it…”
“……”
The things a maid can do are few. She can only pray that things don’t devolve into big problems.

One day, a net to protect fields from birds was introduced to the mayor’s vegetable garden. Gon-chan commented that things would be okay with this while witnessing the deployment of the net.
However, on the next morning, we encountered a field that had been devastated yet again. The sprouts, which we replanted as we had nothing to lose anyway, had been dug out, roots and all, just to be then neglected. On the other hand, the sprouts, which had been alright yesterday, didn’t suffer any noteworthy damage today either.
As for the net we spanned to protect the garden, we couldn’t find a single hole or tear in it, although we checked it very thoroughly. It was no different from when we checked it before bedtime. There were no signs pointing towards birds or small animals having invaded the field.
Because of that, Loligon’s mood became even worse. At this point, you could already describe it as her being pissed.
『Gurururu』
“Umm, Christina-san…”
『……I know. I don’t want to understand, but I do!』
She managed to somehow endure for me. Her face took on a scary shade, though.
I feel like things will go south if the same happens one more time.
Thanks to that, even this ordinary Japanese flat-face felt uneasy about being able to soothe her. It’s said that quite a few people stopped farming due to animals laying waste to their fields. This applies to today just as much as it strikes true for the past. Her anger is very justified.
“Yo, how are things looking with the field…wait, it’s been devastated once again?”
Gon-chan had arrived. He was likely concerned about the mayor and her field.
“It seems like birds aren’t our culprits.”
“You’re right. They wouldn’t be able to cause this much damage with a net and stakes around…”
After checking the devastated field and the completely undamaged net, he also put on a troubled expression, just like this busamen. Apparently this was a highly unusual case for him as well.
With things like that, I’ve run into an impasse during my first year of isekai farming.
“Gonzales-san, do you have an idea of any other, possible reasons?”
“If it’s not birds, I can’t really think of anything else either, to be honest…”
『Gurururu』
No good. The Loligon seems to be close to exploding.
She suddenly faced the vegetable garden and took a step forward. This ordinary Japanese flat-face immediately tried to stop her, but seeing her hand slowly extending for the soul, he closed his mouth before he could form any words. He then watched her silently.
『……Gururu』
She picked up a few of the new leaves which had been torn out. And then she started to put them back into the ground with gentle movements. Apparently she recalled yesterday’s actions by this ordinary Japanese flat-face.
“……”
Aren’t you quite amazing, Loligon?
As I watched her, my heart felt warm and fluffy. And it seemed to be the same for Gon-chan, too.
“Alrighty, now that it’s come to this, I’ll stand on watch tonight, Mayor,” he loudly proclaimed to Loligon who was crouching.
He was flashing a broad, tempting smile. I’m sure he must be busy with his usual work too. It just shows how nice a guy he is.
『Watching the field at night as well?』
“Aye. I mean, Mayor, you also want to see the face of the culprit, don’t you?”
『G-Got it! I’ll stand watch, okay? I’ll also stand guard all night long!』
“That’s what I wanna hear!”
Just as Gon-chan suggested, standing watch will be the easiest way to resolve this issue. Besides, taking action like this will likely improve the Loligon’s mood, too. If it’s just one night, it won’t be that much of an issue.
“If it’s like that, please allow me to join you.”
“Very well. We’ll meet here at the field tonight after getting dinner and taking a bath!”
『Got it!』
“I understand.”
Hearing Gon-chan’s casual, encouraging voice, I suddenly got strange pangs of nostalgia.
*
At night, we assembled in front of the mayor’s vegetable garden, just as we had agreed on in the morning. The members were Loligon, Gon-chan, and this ordinary Japanese flat-face.
If there’s three of us, we’ll likely be able to constantly keep an eye on the field, even if one or two of us take a break. Our lookout post would be a corner of the outer hallway facing the courtyard. This place allows for an unbroken view of the vegetable garden, and if something happens, we can immediately rush over to the field.
Moreover, a small tea table was placed at our feet, carrying a large pot and tea cups for everyone present. Just a little while ago, Maid-san, who happened to pass through the hallway, did the tactful and brought these out for us. I’m deeply thankful for her consideration.
“Now then, is an ogre or a snake going to appear?” Gon-chan asked, looking like he itched for a challenge.
His eyes were warily scanning the vegetable garden. Because of his long career as an adventurer, he’s probably accustomed to this sort of stake-out.
『Not yet? They’re still not here?』
“Christina-san, they might not come out, if we’re too noisy.”
『Gururururu…』
At present, we were hiding ourselves behind the wall between the outer hallway and the courtyard, keeping an eye on the garden’s state. At least I believe that you won’t be able to spot us from the garden.
But, depending on the invader’s manner of walking, it’s also possible that they’ll perceive us first. Going by the part that they’ve devastated the field without being impacted by the net, this ordinary Japanese flat-face suspects that the recent crimes have been carried out by an intelligent animal like a monkey. Maybe they skillfully slipped in underneath the net.
“……”
『……』
A stake-out late at night was a battle against sleepiness. For this reason, the tea brought over by Sophia-chan exhibited its power. By slowly sipping on the tea which had been brewed a bit stronger than usual, this busamen managed to somehow force his heavy eyelids open.
In contrast to this, Gon-chan was extremely indomitable as he remained sharp throughout the whole event. It allowed me to reaffirm the amazingness of genuine adventurers. I’m sure women can’t stop thinking about him, if they see this reliable side of him.
And then, as I wondered for how long we had waited like this, the change was sudden and quick.
“Damn it! It left once again!? Where is it!?”
We could hear a voice all of a sudden. No sooner than me thinking this, a window, facing the courtyard, was abruptly slammed open. The one appearing right afterwards was my blond, thicc, loli elf, so I was quite surprised.
She kicked off the window frame, jumping out of the room. At the same time, she started to restlessly look all over the place.
“With the location being what it is, I’m going to cast capturing magic…”
At that point, I spotted a small figure moving around at a place slightly away from her. It was as big as a person’s fist. It moved very quickly, passed her from behind, and headed towards the vegetable garden.
“Over there!”
A spell was released from sensei’s hand. Several icicles, which were as small as a TV remote controller, flew off. Their target was the mysterious shadow we had spotted as well.
“gh…”
Immediately following, sensei’s face froze. The reason was the flight direction of her icicles. All of them were heading for Loligon’s garden. If this continued, the icicles would undoubtedly hit the bird net, resulting in things becoming a mess. She likely understood this as well, and reacted at once.
“Nuuuoooo.”
She swung her arms in an exaggerated manner. In response to sensei’s movements, the icicles changed their direction and landed right next to the field. The ground immediately froze with crackling sounds.
“T-That was close. I was about to freeze that girl’s field again…”
A somewhat dangerous line spilled out of her lovely mouth. And it was unthinkable for the Loligon to miss it.
『rh…It was her!?』
“Christina-san, wait a se…”
The Loligon kicked off with a force that shattered the stone floor, rushing out. If it turned into a fight between those two, things would become really bad.
This busamen chased after her, heading for the garden. Right in front of him, the Loligon’s tail was peeking out every so often from underneath her skirt. Even though he felt a strong desire to immediately grab it, he suppressed it with sheer willpower.
“Wh-…”
Elf-san, on the other hand, was shocked by our appearance. Her eyes widened as she stared in our direction.
『Did you devastate my field!?』
The Loligon jumped towards Edita-sensei. Not having expected this assault at all, sensei was pushed down to the ground without any resistance. Our mayor was mounting her while leaning forward. She grabbed her opponent’s shoulders with both hands and pushed them down.

“N-No!”
『What was that just now then!? You were talking about freezing it, weren’t you!?』
“gh…T-That’s, u-umm…”
Having this pointed out to her by the mayor, sensei was at a loss how to continue. In the meantime, Gon-chan ran up from behind me. Seeing the two lying on the ground, he pulled a troubled expression and said, “Mayor, you can still punish her after listening to her side of the story first, right?”
『Gururururu…』
This ordinary Japanese flat-face shared his opinion.
“Edita-san, what have you been doing out here so late at night? Even though it happened in the courtyard, it’s still quite dangerous to unleash offensive magic inside the mansion. If something problematic has occurred, I would like you to consult us by all means.”
“Y-Yeah…”
My blond, thicc loli sensei’s eyes wandered back and forth between us while she remained pinned down by the Loligon. Her wearing pajamas enhanced this, but she looked much younger than usual. Thanks to that, it was a scene that incited my sadistic heart quite a lot.
Before long, after worrying about it for a while, sensei started to talk, appearing as if she’d accepted her fate.
“…Previously I told y-you that I heard weird n-noise at night, didn’t I?”
“Yes, I remember that you consulted me about this.”
“I discovered t-the creature that seems to be the c-cause of it, and chased after it. But, this thing is unexpectedly nimble. A-Accordingly, umm, I ended up u-using offensive magic against my b-better judgment. Please forgive me for causing y-you trouble.”
Seeing Edita-sensei spill the beans while looking despondent is very lovely. She’s probably feeling guilty for real.
She said that she couldn’t sleep in the last few days due to noise. It’s only natural for her to feel like shooting one or two spells, if the reason for that noise was wandering around right in front of her. At least, this ordinary Japanese flat-face would have definitely acted in such a way.
“So you found the cause of the noise, huh? That’s great.”
『I-It’s not great at all! In exchange, my field has been plunged into a dire state!』
“W-Wrong! It wasn’t m-me who devastated the field!”
『But, just a little while ago you said it yourself, didn’t you!? That you froze it!』
“Certainly, I did freeze a part of t-the field two d-days ago. But, I-I restored it properly! I t-thawed the plants that ended u-up frozen, cast healing m-magic on them, and put them back i-into the ground, just as they were b-before!”
『Why was it ravaged this morning then!?』
“I don’t k-know that e-either…”
『…Really? Or are you lying?』
“It’s true! I’m n-not lying!”
I was reminded how Edita-sensei looked strangely surprised when we confirmed the damage to the vegetable garden for the first time. With the explanation now, I could understand her reaction back then.
It sounds like sensei isn’t lying. I’m sure there must be another criminal. And the most likely candidate is the figure which sensei had chased.
“Edita-san, just what is that creature?”
“I’m sorry, but I still haven’t grasped its identity. The darkness of night makes this hard. I think it’s around as big as an adult’s fist. For some reason it also has a weird shape. At the least, I think it’s different from birds or pests that walk on four legs…”
“I see.”
I think there’s no doubt that it’s the same creature we saw earlier. Still, just what is that thing?
Even though I was scanning our vicinity, it had already vanished. While we were focusing on the exchange between sensei and the Loligon, it quickly used the opportunity to get away. Given the situation, it seems like it’ll be quite difficult to search for it.
『Did that thing destroy my field?』
“Well, it’s not like we have positive proof for it, but it’s a possibility…”
『Then I’m going to catch it! That creature!』
I have a feeling that her nightly watch will continue for a while longer.
*
On the next day, the mayor’s field greeted a peaceful morning for the first time in the last few days.
『The field hasn’t been ransacked!』
“Well, that makes sense. We’ve watched it in shifts all night long.”
The Loligon looked very happy while Gon-chan appeared to be slightly sleepy.
In the end, we had watched the field all night after dragging Edita-sensei into this as well. As we were unable to spot even the faintest trace of a suspicious shadow, you could also see this whole endeavor as fruitless, but thanks to it, the Loligon’s field safely passed the night.
『Alright! I will be on watch tonight as well!』
“In that case, I guess I’ll try to call out to my folks from the clan…”
By the way, Edita-sensei went back to her own room as soon as the sun rose. Her prolonged lack of sleep has apparently caught up with her, so she’s likely sleeping in her bed around now. We arbitrarily made her tag along, so I feel somewhat guilty. Yet, sensei kept us company to the bitter end while smiling all the time. She’s a truly kindhearted person.
Even this ordinary Japanese flat-face is considering going back to his own room for a nap since he feels somewhat tired.
“Very well then, Christina-san. Let us meet at night once again.”
『Gotcha!』
No, before that I must head over to Goggoru-chan’s place. Because I was busy all day yesterday, I couldn’t talk with her. To be honest, I’d love to jump in my bed, but my feet directed me to the Loligon Tower. Goggoru-chan might still be asleep since it’s early in the day, but I thought I should try going there anyway.
As I flew through the sky, my sleepiness was dispersed somewhat thanks to the fresh morning air. Gazing at the morning glow from high up in the air allowed a peek at a very comfortable scenery after an all-nighter. The chilly wind, which was caressing my cheeks, cleared my mind as if I was taking a cold shower.
Before long, I arrived at Goggoru-chan’s home. The owner was already up and about.
She ushered in this ordinary Japanese flat-face. And just like before, we had our talk at the table on the terrace facing outwards.
Our topic naturally shifted towards Loligon’s field. It was the reason for this busamen having come late for his talk.
“…Animal damage?”
“Yes. The plants on Christina-san’s field have been ransacked over the last few days. We have adopted that measure, starting with last night. This seems to be a fairly shrewd opponent, so it seems like it will take a bit of time.”
“……”
I took the liberty to share the latest news with Goggoru-chan. In response, the eyebrows of the dark-brown lolita-san twitched.
She’s someone barely showing anything you could call emotions on her face, so even the slightest changes are noticeable. Maybe the occasions of me overlooking these small gestures have gradually decreased thanks to my repeated exchanges with her.
“…Is something the matter?”
“Nothing.”
At first I thought that she might know something, but then I reconsidered as that would make no sense. The opponent was a small animal the size of a rat. Its true identity still remains unclear, but I don’t think it has anything to do with her who lives in a tall tower.
“Is that so?”
“Yes.”
“Its size seems to be close to that of a fist. According to Edita-san, it appears to be different from birds or animals walking on four legs. I’m sorry for suddenly bringing this up with you, but do you remember any such creatures, Rocoroco-san?”
Don’t mice and civets make quite a bit of noise whenever they settle in an attic? I remember having it seen in the news in the past, but rattling and clattering would be quite loud noises.
“…Is the elf searching as well?”
“Yes. It seems like the animal has been active around her room as well, and each time it has caused noise-related issues. Because of those circumstances and also to stop the damage to the field, we want to deal with this as soon as possible.”
“……”
Noise is a problem that’s extremely difficult to handle. If you don’t handle it skillfully, noise will cause even more noise, and the problem will grow in size within the blink of an eye. If a kabedon tournament started in the mayor’s mansion as an outcome of the disturbances spreading outside her room, it’d be too terrible to look at. 1
Given that the walls of the building were made out of this Japanese flat-face’s Stone Wall, it’d likely be impossible to put holes into it, unless Edita-sensei or the Loligon participated.
But, I’d absolutely hate it for the atmosphere between the residents to become so strained.
“…If that’s the case, live in the tower with me.”
“That is a very charming proposal, but given the chronology of events we managed to skillfully reach up until this point, I’d like to properly resolve the issue, if it’s possible by dealing with a small animal.
“…….”
Maybe you’re much more suited to gardening as a hobby than the Loligon, Goggoru-chan. You won’t be able to talk with plants, but if you choose and grow very active plants, I feel like your daily life will become enriched in various ways.
“I want to talk more than do gardening.”
“Of course. That is fine. I will make sure to frequently commute to this place.”
Damn you, Goggoru-chan. You realized this virgin’s soft spot when it comes to pleading. Thanks to that, I feel somewhat happy. When your feeling of wanting to be desired gradually grows in strength, I’d like to be reverse-raped someday.
“Still, I believe the next few days over there will become quite busy.”
“……”
“I feel sorry for talking all the time from my side, but it might affect my conversation time with you, Rocoroco-san, to some extent. I would have loved to inform you as early as possible, so allow me to apologize for the suddenness. I would be very grateful if I could get your understanding.”
“…Got it.”
“Thank you very much.”
Afterwards, this busamen enjoyed talking with her until the afternoon.
*
Having returned for them Loligon Tower, this ordinary Japanese flat-face was heading towards the courtyard. He was planning to take another look at the vegetable garden before going to sleep.
On the way, I ran into an acquaintance in the outer hallway.
“Oh my, Christina-san.”
『Hmm? Ah, it’s you!』
After turning around and spotting me, she quickly walked over with a pitter-patter. The tail extending from below her skirt looked lovely as it gently wagged. Apparently being that happy over her field being safe, she was still smiling brightly.
『Where are you going?』
“I thought about heading to the courtyard in order to take a look at the field.”
『Good idea! I-I also thought about doing that! Alright!』
With her smile becoming even wider, the Loligon dashed ahead to get there first. Very likely, she was originally aiming to check the vegetable garden, too.
Chasing after her, I headed towards the courtyard at a quick pace.
Thereupon I found some people already being present over there. Sophia-chan, Gon-chan, Ester-chan, and moreover Drill-chan as well as Deviant-Longhair were all exchanging glances at each other in front of the mayor’s garden. All of them looked devastated.
Because of this, this busamen had a bad premonition. It caused a shiver to run across my spine. And the same seemed to apply to the owner of the field.
『O-Oi! …Did something happen to my field?』, she called out to them while appearing uneasy.
At the same time as everyone’s attention shifted to the Loligon, the state of the garden became visible for us through the gaps between them. The sprouts, which we had buried in the soil just several hours ago, had been pulled out cruelly, exposing their small roots.
Because the crimes so far had been limited to night time, we assumed the criminal to be a nocturnal creature, but that wasn’t the case. I never expected that it’d devastate the field in broad daylight. This is a shock for this ordinary Japanese flat-face, too.
The shock suffered by the major must go even beyond my own, though.
『gh…』
Completely different from the bright smile from before, her face was now showing no emotions at all. The Loligon’s emotional ups and downs have been similar to those of a roller-coaster these days. Although damage by animals was a part of agriculture, even this ordinary Japanese flat-face was slowly getting worried. Someone with a fairly pure character would undoubtedly accumulate quite a lot of stress under the same situation.
“Christina-san, umm…”
Fearing the possibility of her going berserk, I called out to her preemptively. In response she dropped her small shoulders and lowered her face. Her tail and tightly clenched fists were trembling. She seemed about to explode.
This busamen’s face stiffened while he prepared himself for a following magic circle and gust of wind. Let’s surround the field by a Stone Wall so that none of the magic can hit the vegetable garden.
With that in mind, I shifted my focus to the field. But, no matter how long I waited, a roar didn’t leave her mouth.
Instead, the dry field farming dragon suddenly looked up to me, and asked, 『…Why is it my field every day?』
What followed was a genuine, innocent question. As if having forgotten to even blink, she stared at this ordinary Japanese flat-face and asked, 『Flowers and such are growing in the city and yet only my field is being damaged. Why? Is this also one of the features of human fields? Are humans also producing food while experiencing something so devastating every day?』.
Her expression had gone beyond anger and now she was just looking very sad. The precondition that we’re from different races probably has some influence in this, but maybe because of her overly honest character, it pains her heart.
This busamen also felt guilty about saying too much about this and that from his side as a human.
Honestly, her current appearance is painful to watch.
『…I will raise them』
“Christina-san?”
Those words had spilled out of her mouth as a continuous murmur. Her eyes shifted from this busament to the vegetable garden.
『I’ll properly grow these!』
She raised her voice as she addressed everyone present. At the end of her line of sight lay the young sprouts which had been pulled out by the roots and left abandoned on the soil just like that.
『If I leave them here, the same will just happen again! Hence, I just need to raise them somewhere others can’t reach them! If I do it like that, they won’t be attacked any longer! They won’t be pulled out of the field until they grow into strong and big plants!』
No sooner than saying that, the Loligon quickly walked over to the field. And there she started to carefully gather the uprooted, young sprouts. The warm light faintly released by her hands likely was healing magic. Before I noticed it, a magic circle had appeared underneath her feet.
The love, which the Loligon was pouring into the field, was heart-breaking. I already thought it back with the nui case, but she might be a dragon who overflows with motherly feelings much more than we had imagined.
The mayor held out the young sprouts, which she had carefully picked up with her fingers, towards this ordinary Japanese flat-face and said, 『The others haven’t been attacked! Only these guys are being hated!』
“…Certainly, now that you say it, you’re totally right.”
Just as the mayor stated, only a certain section of the fields, which contained always the same type of sprouts, got attacked. If these sprouts had been pulled out and devoured, one could have assumed that the criminal liked them as food. But, just pulling them out by the roots and leaving them there feels weird, if you consider it closely.
I wonder what the reason might be.
『I already know how to make a field! I can now make as many of them as I want!』
“If it’s about that, I will also help you.”
『…Seriously?』
“Yes, seriously.”
I was convinced that the mayor would go on a rampage, but her overflowing love for the field altered her will onto a track leading down a positive and proactive line of thinking.
“In that case, I’ll tag along as well, okay Mayor-san.”
“If the number of fields increases to two, I think you will need another earth gem, huh?”
“M-Mistress, that is n-nothing one can obtain so easily…”
“U-Umm, in that case I will prepare somewhat bigger flowerpots!”
Everyone chimed in with warm voices.
The incident occurred in the midst of all that. Some people walking this way appeared from the outer hallway which was facing the courtyard. Not just one, but two lolitas with impressive white and black contrasts. One of them I had met just very recently.
Edita-sensei and Goggoru-chan.
“As expected, there was some damage, huh…?” Sensei mumbled while gazing at the people crowding in front of the vegetable garden.
Her eyes were pinned on the field where the young sprouts were now gone.
“Edita-san, did you possibly hear some noise again?”
“Mmh, I woke u-up just as I had fallen asleep, so I h-headed this way, thinking that something might happen, but it looks l-like the field was already a-attacked. Going by t-the state of the damage so far, I thought that the criminal m-might b-be nocturnal, but seeing this now, this h-has become doubtful.”
“And Rocoroco-san…?”
“I met her o-on the way here. It s-seems like she has some business with you people.”
“Some business with us?”
Now then, I wonder what it might be. Though I don’t recall having made any promises with her. As I sent a questioning look her way, she whispered, “…Bothered by the criminal.”
“You mean the criminal of the current uproar over here?”
“Yes.”
It looks like even Goggoru-chan is worrying about Loligon’s field. However, her sallying forth on this matter means it’s not that minor as it may seem. If you consider her abilities, it’s become necessary to consider an abandonment of the thinking thus far. Or in other words, this isn’t a crime by some small animal, but it’s being carried out by someone living in this mansion.
“But, Rocoroco-san, the current uproar…”
“Will check.”
Goggoru-chan took a step towards the field. In response, everyone else drew back as if to open a path for her. Everyone was looking rather tense. I was the only one standing still while remaining unperturbed.
This busamen continued so as to hinder her from proceeding.
“Rocoroco-san, you don’t have to go this far.”
“…Wrong.”
“Wrong? What do you mean by that? Even if you might be doing this for the sake of resolving the problem, I would like you to refrain from reading the mind of others against their will…”
“That’s why wrong,” she muttered indifferently and quickly passed this ordinary Japanese flat-face.
The nice Goggoru smell hit my nose. Just as I thought this, she abruptly stepped onto the field.
『H-Hey, stop it! What’re you up to!?』
“Investigation.”
Without minding the mayor’s roar, Goggoru-chan proceeded across the field. While intently staring at the young buds, which just recently sprouted, without showing any carelessness on her face.
『Aaahh! D-Don’t step there! You’re going to trample down the fluffy soil, you know!? What are you going to do, if there’s still some seeds left below!? In some cases the bud won’t be able to break through, if you solidify the soil above the seed, don’t you know!? The elf over there said so!』
“Dragon, silent.”
『Wh-….!?』
Goggoru-chan started to willfully march around the field. It seemed like she was making sure to properly avoid the sprouts, though.
And yet the Loligon was watching her every step with a very nervous expression. No, it wasn’t just the Loligon either. Everyone present was worried about what the brown lolita in front of them intended to do.
My blond, thicc loli sensei, who had brought Goggoru-chan here, looked like she was about to cry any moment. Her eyes, which were bloodshot because of lacking sleep, made her look even more tragic because of that.
“…Found it.”
At last, Goggoru-chan showed some sort of reaction. She stopped walking around while mumbling under her breath.
“Rocoroco-san?”
“Silence.”
I was curtly talked down when I asked her for an explanation. Usually you never knew what she was thinking because of her expressionless face, but today I could feel from her atmosphere that she was fully focusing on the field. I’m sure she’s working very hard for the Loligon in her own way.
Thus we have no choice but to silently watch the outcome.
Under the scrutinizing eyes of everyone, Goggoru-chan stood still in the middle of the field, checking one sprout after the other. She didn’t extend her hands or anything. She simply directed her eyes at the sprouts in an orderly, systemic fashion.
Before long, her eyes stopped at a leaf that was growing in a corner of the field. It was a plant that had grown somewhat bigger than the other produce.
“…This.”
Immediately following, her hand darted out. She grabbed the stalk and pulled at it with all her strength.
『Wh-!? W-Wait! STOP!』
The Loligon screamed. Without minding Goggoru-chan’s presence, she stepped forward.
Without any hesitation due to this, the brown lolita-san moved her arm vigorously. The sprout in her hand was pulled out of the ground in one breath.
And in the next instant, a voice could be heard.
『Aaaaaaaaaaaaa!』
For an instant, I thought it was the Loligon’s voice. But, the voice’s type was too different for that. Having said that, Goggoru-chan’s voice was different too. Yet, the voice came from the field’s direction and there was no one else over there.
However, the source of the voice immediately became clear. After all, the sprout, which Goggoru-chan pulled out, was no sprout.
“Cause, this.”
She thrust that, which she was holding tightly, in our direction.
For some reason something like a humanoid hung down from her head instead of a slender sprout with its hidden roots. Moreover, it was flapping its limbs as if resisting Goggoru-chan’s hold.
“I see. A dryad fairy, huh…?” Edita-sensei commented from behind me.
*
We encountered a very fancy creature in the Loligon’s vegetable garden, which we set up in the courtyard of the mayor’s mansion.
Everyone’s attention was directed at the mysterious creature which Goggoru-chan was currently holding. It had a size of around thirty centimeters. Fresh, green leaves were growing on its head and its root-like limbs were winding and wriggling.
Going by the length of its hair and the physique, it seemed to be female at a first glance, but I couldn’t spot any sexual organs. Because it had been buried in the ground up until now, dirts was clinging to its body. Only the leaves on its head had been extending out of the ground while everything else had been buried below.
That creature was currently struggling in Goggoru-chan’s hand.

“A dryad fairy, you say?”
“Yes, that’s r-right.”
I ran across various creatures such as dragons and orcs, but it’s my first encounter with a dryad. Still, its appearance has totally that isekai vibe going for it, doesn’t it? Its struggling seemed rather cute too. It’s just like a doll which has been made for small children.
If one comes up with a smart scheme, it’ll be usable even for us adults, no?
“Isn’t the p-possibility of this t-thing budding in this environment close t-to zero? What a blind spot,” Edita-sensei said as if having been defeated.
Her willingness to not forget to reflect on things, no matter the time and circumstances, is cool. In contrast to her, however, everyone else’s curiosity was directed on the dryad.
“A dryad is a spirit, right? It’s my first time to see one of those,” commented Drill-chan.
“Hey, wait a minute. You can harvest spirits from fields!? What’s the deal here?”
“Umm…s-she’s somehow cute!” Sophia-chan blurted out.
“Its coloring is much prettier than the illustrations I saw in the royal academy’s textbooks.”
Such fairies appear to be widely known, but at the same time, a dryad might be a fairly rare creature, going by the way everyone is staring at her. Still, I cannot afford to be the only one missing out on this topic.
I’ll ask my blond, thicc loli sensei to give us an explanation.
“Edita-san, excuse me, but what does dryad mean…?”
“Ah, dryads a-are a sort of spirit. They n-naturally a-appear in areas with plenty of m-mana. But, I didn’t expect for one to be born i-in such a short period o-of time. I guess you should p-praise an ancient dragon’s mana.”
“I understand.”
In the first place, the definition of spirit is somewhat fuzzy within the mind of this busamen.
Well, this is a world of sword and magic, so I should take into account that such creatures will exist as well. Even when it comes to elves, it’s not like I fully understand their types and mode of life.
Either way, the problem lies in the dryad being caught in the field of the mayor’s mansion.
“On top of you and the ancient dragon having tilled the field by hand, you also buried a magic stone of earth in the soil. Additionally, people with a lot of mana are living in the mansion. This place might actually be paradise for this spirit,” Edita-sensei said with a somewhat relieved expression.
『…This thing has been devastating my field?』
“Yep,” Goggoru-chan confirmed the mayor’s question and continued with an indifferent voice, “It seems to hate that grass.”
『……』
Donning a confused expression, the Loligon stared at her own palm while dumbfounded. There lay the young sprouts with their exposed roots.
Even this ordinary Japanese flat-face hadn’t expected that they’d be pulled out because of someone’s preference. No wonder, the dryad left them lying on the soil after uprooting them.
“It hates the smell, I hear.”
『I-It tormented these guys for such a reason!? Moreover, every day!?』
“Yep.”
『gn…』
The Loligon’s wrath had been rekindled. She was glaring at the dryad right now. The dryad, on the other hand, apparently got overwhelmed by the Loligon’s pressure and drive, and started to tremble all over. I couldn’t find any signs of it understanding our language, but it seemed to understand some of it from the reactions by its surroundings.
If you consider things from the perspective of a spirit who’s living its life while buried in the ground, the existence of vegetables, which possess a smell it hates, is like having someone with a strong body odor invading your personal space. Looking at it like that, it’s not like I can’t understand why the dryad would want to pull out the sprouts.
“W-Well, wait a moment. The spirit didn’t mean ill.”
『Nope!』
Despite Edita-sensei trying to pacify her, the Loligon couldn’t be stopped. If not for Goggoru-chan’s mind-reading ability, she’d have likely dashed over to the dryad right away. Instead she was growling while staring at the spirit so as to threaten it. But that couldn’t be helped since she had finally found a place to direct her anger from the last few days to.
『If we leave that thing alone, these leaves won’t grow!』
“That’s, umm, it’s not like it can’t be done.
『…Is that so?』
『If the dryad is persuaded by a higher-ranking spirit to stop it, it should listen to that advice. Communicating with a low-ranked spirit which has been born just recently is difficult, but if it’s a greater spirit with a fair amount of power, we will be able to talk with the dryad.”
『Gurururu….』
“Should I ask them from my side?
It sounds like greater spirits also exist in addition to spirits. In short, we’re going to request the superior to resolve a problem the grunt cannot resolve within the top down system of the spirits. Given that they understand our language, I feel like wanting to meet a greater spirit for a bit. Maybe leaves are growing on its head as well.
“I grasped the current situation in regards to the issue on the field. Coupled with this, I would also like to confirm matters about the noise problem occurring at Edita-san’s room, but I wonder, could you read its mind for us on this matter as well?”
Since it’s such a rare opportunity, we should also check on the other matter. This one is also an important issue we cannot leave unchecked.
Immediately following this ordinary Japanese flat-face’s question, Edita-san answered without even giving Goggoru-chan to answer anything.
“Ah, that side should be okay. Given that the o-other party is a s-spirit who has just been born, I-I can somewhat d-deduct the reason. My mana is relatively close to these people, so it probably started to meddle with me because of that.”
“…Correct.”
Hearing this, Goggoru-chan applied her stamp of approval.
“Having said that, being constantly d-disturbed d-during my sleep is troublesome. I t-think we should talk to the dryad through a-a greater spirit as s-soon as possible. Allow m-me to make sure just i-in case, but you wouldn’t m-mind if we h-have this spirit moved o-outside, away from this field, right?”
『No need to ask! We should hurry up and get rid of that thing!』
“But, fields inhabited by spirits y-yield better produce, y-you know?”
『gh!?』
This caused the Loligon’s expression to become dumbfounded in surprise once again. She sure is a dragon with a plethora of different expressions. She apparently hasn’t considered that her sword enemy would accelerate the growth of crops and such. Thanks to that, she started to confusedly look back and forth between her field and the spirit after a short spell of shock.
“But well, it might not be necessary to go o-out of our way to talk to the spirit t-through a greater spirit with things l-like this.”
『……』
Just as sensei pointed out, the dryad not only dangled back and forth since Goggoru-chan was firmly holding the leaves on her head, but her body had clearly started to tremble violently as she was scared by the Loligon’s look. Hugging her own body with both arms looked lovely.
With this, even the mayor found it hard to press the charge any further. Mutual prosperity between different races is quite difficult, indeed.
*
In the end, the dwelling of Spirit-san was put on hold.
If a dryad lived in a field, the crops planted close to it would grow well. The Loligon, who had listened to our conversation, will grow the plants, which the dryad had uprooted, in another place, so we’re going to watch the situation for the time being.
As for the Spirit-san in question, it continued to tremble under the ground, even when Goggoru-chan buried it back in its previous spot on the field. It was pretty obvious as only the plant furthest in the corner appeared to shake among the many young new sprouts and their leaves.
On the other hand, the one thing we couldn’t leave to sort it out itself was the noise issue in Edita-sensei’s room. As for this problem, we decided to call a greater spirit to the courtyard on that very night.
If we believe the words of my blond, thicc loli sensei, it seems like it’s possible to summon spirits living in the vicinity by offering your mana. Depending on the quantity and quality of the mana, a huge range of different types of spirits could be called, she explained. It’s a very fantasy-like spell.
She said she’d summon a spirit of a higher ranking but the same category as the dryad. Of course, Edita-sensei would play the main role in this. As she had apparently summoned spirit many times in the past, she was proficient in the procedure.
Going by what I’ve heard from everyone in the mansion, it was rare to see a greater spirit. Accordingly, most of the residents of the mayor’s mansion gathered when the event was about to kick off. Everyone was looking very curiously at the magic circle next to the field.
The Noble Mage was all giddy. After having been briefed by sensei, that magic freak waited all the time next to the vegetable garden for the sun to set. Probably because of those circumstances or since she had missed the opportunity to escape from the field, the dryad was now trembling in her corner.
“Okay, I-I’m going to start,” said sensei with a quiet voice.
In response to that, the magic circle started to glow.
“I-I don’t mind if it’s a very simple breakdown, but could you give us an explanation?”
A request immediately popped up from the Noble Mage. He was closely watching Edita-sensei’s every move with very interested eyes. Even an outsider could perfectly tell that he was dancing inside his mind out of sheer excitement.
“The spirit summoning can broadly be influenced by the mana given and the attribute the spirit you want to call likes. Depending on the circumstances, a spirit you didn’t plan for occasionally will show up as well, but well, I guess that’s the fate of summoning magic, so it can’t be helped.”
“I understand. So it’s based on summoning magic after all, huh?”
“Yeah, you’re not wrong to understand it like that.”
Underneath the dark curtain of night, the magic circle’s glow looked very pretty. The complicated and mysterious geometrical drawing gradually increased its illumination as Edita-sensei recited her chant. The present residents of the mayor’s mansion were spellbound by that fantastical spectacle.
In the next instant, a change occurred at the point of everyone’s observation. At the same time as the circle started to emit a conspicuously dazzling light, a figure took shape above it. A beast with a size of around fifty to sixty centimeters appeared in the center of the big, round drawing. Its big ears were quite pointy as outstanding characteristics. If I had to compare it to an animal I know myself, I’d probably go with a fennec fox.
Since sensei had mentioned that they understand human language, I had totally expected for something with a humanoid shape to appear. Thanks to that, I was slightly surprised at first. Everyone else seemed to harbor a similar view as I could hear oohs and aahs full of surprise from all over the place.
“Oh myyy? It has an awfully cute appearance, doesn’t it?”
“Milady, please move back behind me.”
“U-Ugh, this definitely seems like a being that can be clearly distinguished from other spirits.”
“It’s rather small, if you consider that it’s called greater spirit.”
“I-It’s so cute…”
True, it’s cute indeed. Its appearance was more that of a pet than a greater spirit.
“The outward appearance of pure spirits bears no m-meaning. Don’t get i-influenced too much by its looks.”
Sensei’s advice was passed on to everyone. She probably means to say to not get carried away, even if the spirit is adorable.
“…W-What are you people? Why did you summon me all of a sudden?”
Such a question was raised by the other party. Gazing at the people surrounding the magic circle, the spirit looked somewhat scared. Her eyes especially darted around between the Loligon, Deviant-Longhair, this ordinary Japanese flat-face, and Edita-sensei. She was fidgeting around quite obviously. Her whole stance clearly suggested that she was getting ready to fight right after the summoning.
The appearance of a beast talking in human tongue felt extremely odd when looking at it.
“Please forgive us for summoning you all of a sudden, but would you be a earth spirit living around this area?”
“What, if that’s the case? I followed the summoning because it was an invitation by a high elf, so why is a dragon here? M-Moreover, isn’t that a demon over there? Also, some mysterious being is present as well…”
The scared fake fennec fox fixated its eyes on this ordinary Japanese flat-face. As soon as he responded with a friendly smile, it started to shake from the tips of its ears all the way to the tail. It looks like it’s suffering from a busamen-related shock.
“These people are simply present out of curiosity.”
“…Really?”
“Yes. I would prefer you to not put yourself on guard so much.”
It has a cute appearance, but I wonder what sort of stats it possesses.
Name: Spinny

It’s fairly strong. It looks like it doesn’t hold the title of greater spirit for show. And yet, it falls behind, compared to Edita-sensei and the Loligon. If it took on Deviant-Longhair, it might turn into a reasonably good fight. Of course, there’s nothing speaking against considering it as a threat for everyone else. Even this ordinary Japanese flat-face would have to deal with it while bracing himself.
“I have summoned you as there is something I want to talk about in regards to the spirit kin over there. It’s a very peaceful topic. I’m sorry that it has turned into a consultation that might feel like I’m pushing my inconveniences on you, but as for the spirit who has been newly born in that field…”
While Edita-sensei was talking, a change occurred at the field. The dryad, which had been buried in the ground while trembling, started to move.
No sooner than quickly leaving the ground, it rushed over to the greater spirit. And there it hid its body just like a child who hides at the feet of its parents by slipping underneath the fake fennec’s tail.
“…This one?”
“Y-Yeah. It has been shadowing me day and night.”
“Considering that, it appears to be extremely scared…”
“That’s, umm…how to say it best…? That spirit ravaged the f-field of the dragon over there, w-which led to a s-small dispute. I feel very sorry, but c-could y-you have it move to another place? At this r-rate, things won’t work out w-well for both sides, I think.”
“……”
After hearing sensei’s explanation, Greater Spirit-dono shifted its eyes to Spirit-san. The dryad, who was wrapped up in the fluffy tail, clung to the base of the tail while quivering.
“…Understood. I will have it move to a new place.”
“Thanks. That will be a huge h-help.”
It sounds like we got Greater Spirit-san to understand the situation. And as such, it agreed without even trying to dispute it. It’s great that Greater Spirit-dono is so reasonable.
“But, it’s also rare to hear about a dragon playing with dirt.”
『What, is it wrong for a dragon to care for a field?』
“I-I haven’t said that it’s wrong, have I?”
『Humph…』
The Loligon immediately turned her face away. The greater spirit kept staring at her so as to get a read on her mental state. Since it looks like a small animal, I don’t feel anything like pressure from it. But, now that I checked its stats, I felt uneasier, the harder it was to judge its feelings from its face.
Since sensei summoned it, I don’t think it’ll turn into something serious, though.
“…Hey, Dragon, is the field’s produce so important to you?”
『Of course! If you’re planning something weird, I’m going to butcher you! Got it?』
“Hmm.”
The greater spirit acts as if pondering about something after being exposed to the Loligon’s threats. While standing up on its two feet, it folded its arms.
『W-What?』
“Depending on how you think about it, this spirit is yet another product of the field, but what is your take on this? When taking care of the field, you won’t find much of a difference when it comes to taking care of the plants or spirits, will you?”
『…Why?』
Uh-oh, I have a hunch that the greater spirit has initiated inter-racial diplomatic negotiations with the Loligon. I wonder whether it’s okay to just watch it like this.
Having become worried, this busamen decided to ask his blond, thicc loli sensei for advice. At present he lacked too much expertise about earth spirits to make a legitimate judgment on the current situation.
“Edita-san, umm…”
“It should be okay. Even if i-it might be a-a greater spirit, it’s u-unthinkable that it would try something f-funny with an ancient dragon. Assuming we would be d-dealing with an e-even higher ranking spirit, that dragon w-would still be able to a-argue with t-them on equal footing. Besides, earth s-spirits often possess a relatively gentle p-personality.”
“I see.”
“In addition, it w-will be a huge boon f-for this city to have a c-connection to a powerful spirit. That g-girl is no idiot. I think she w-will be able to talk normally with the s-spirit while considering a-all that. All the more so, if s-she intends to continue p-plowing fields in the future.”
If it’s like that, I should stay silent and watch how things unfold. Now is the time for the mayor to shine.
This busamen won’t steal her show.
“This spirit was born from your mana, you know? Coupled with the magic stone buried over there, the good condition of the field as it was tilled often, and your mana, it was born into this world. How is it any different from the plants growing on the field? The only difference would be between borrowing some mana and moving your hands.”
『gh…』
The greater spirit’s words penetrated the Loligon. Most recently she’s been weak whenever being told such things. Moreover, the part about her own field being casually praised stirred her heart, I’m sure.
『The one who started the fight was that spirit!』
“Taking care of crops and plants takes time and effort. Wouldn’t it be just proper to have at least that much resolve when you keep a field? Even though you said it devastated the field, it’s not like it destroyed everything at random. This spirit here regards the field over there as a precious home, too.”
『If it cannot get along with the other vegetables, I-I have no choice but to remove it!』
“I’d say it’s the same for the vegetables as well.”
『…Huh?』
“Many vegetables cannot grow next to other vegetables. Didn’t you know that?”
『……』
There are signs for the Loligon losing the farming talk. Since she’s an honest girl in the strangest things, she ended up being taken for a ride by the greater spirit. It’s fairly easy to imagine that she has resolved everything with brute force in the past, so she must be bad with solving things through talking.
“…As I thought, dragons are selfish creatures after all, huh?”
『G-Gururururu』
“Was this the only reason why you summoned me?”
The greater spirit turned its fennec-like face in Edita-sensei’s direction. It looked like its wariness had decreased quite a bit, compared to the beginning.
“Y-Yeah, that’s a-all, but…”
“Okay, then allow me to excuse myself.”
It appears like the greater spirit can somehow return from where it came from without needing our assistance. As soon as it muttered something, a magic circle appeared underneath its feet. For an instant I put myself on guard, but when I saw Edita-sensei reacting calmly to it, this ordinary Japanese flat-face imitated her.
On the other hand, Loligon howled when she saw that.
『Fine, whatever! I-I don’t really mind either way! I can stay here!』, she exclaimed loudly with a face full of resolve.
For her this might be one of the few compromises she ever made.
『But, I’ll kill it if it devastates the plants on the field! I definitely don’t permit that!』
Silent stares were exchanged between Greater Spirit-dono and the mayor. Edita-sensei looked at both of them with a worried expression. Whatever you might say about her, she likely worries about the Loligon. When I looked around me, I found the others looking at the two with similar expressions.
“…I see. You truly cherish that field, I guess.”
『Gurururu…』, growled the Loligon.
Seeing that, the greater spirit’s facial expression softened somewhat.
“But, the concerned party’s own will plays a role in this as well. This time I’ll take it with me. But, if another of my kin is born on this land, I’d like you to treat it well, if possible. I’d also be willing to help you with your field at such a time.”
『……』
“Still there sure are some strange places in this world…,” the greater spirit muttered while surveying us.
All of us were surrounding the mayor’s vegetable garden. Even Sophia-chan, Princess-sama, and the members of the Twilight Troupe have shown up to watch the show without me even noticing their arrival. Now it somehow feels like a festival.
“You have my gratitude for having accepted my kin.”
The greater spirit bowed while remaining standing on two legs. I managed to catch a glimpse of the backside of its big ears. And then its body disappeared with a poof in the middle of the glowing circle.
『Ah……』
Immediately after that, the magic circle faded away as well, allowing for night’s darkness to reclaim its rule over the courtyard once more.
The rooms facing the courtyard faintly illuminated the place with their lights, but I couldn’t find any sign of the spirits any longer. It looks like the greater spirit took the dryad with it as promised. Though I don’t know where they’ve gone to.
“Anyway, I guess this matter has now been resolved.”
Edita-sensei’s whisper sounded awfully loud inside the courtyard that had regained its silence.

Several days have passed since the talk with the greater spirit. Thanks to the source of all the uproar, the spirit, having been forcibly deported, peace had returned to the mayor’s mansion. The Loligon’s field stopped being devastated and my blond, thicc loli sensei could finally sleep without any interruptions.
The vegetable garden’s plants were quickly growing too.
『Hey, look at that! There’s a lot more leaves than yesterday!』
“The same leaves were already p-present yesterday, I think.”
『That’s wrong! Those are new!』
The Loligon and Edita-sensei were crouching in front of the garden, gazing at the growing vegetable leaves while talking about this and that. It depended a bit on the breed, but the young leaves have grown quite a bit and you could already start seeing their form as vegetables.
Because of that, the mayor’s excitement skyrocketed. She was visiting the field every day several times and gallantly took care of the plants. Moreover, she was mostly doing everything herself, from watering to weeding. Probably influenced by seeing the Loligon doing all that, the times when I found sensei gazing at the plants increased.
『Ah, hey, step aside from there for a moment. A weed’s growing over there』
“This here?”
『AAAHHH! You have to properly pull it out by the root, you know!?』
“Err, I did t-that, okay?”
『The root of that weed is long! It was torn off halfway!』
“…Does a l-little rest matter?”
『YES! You have to search for the cut end and pull out the rest of the root!』
“……”
The Loligon and sensei were exchanging a peaceful gardening talk. The ones watching those two from a slightly distant place were Goggoru-chan, who had visited the mayor’s mansion to play, and this ordinary Japanese flat-face.
She came along when I told her that I’d like to take a look at the field.
While watching those lively two, this busamen took the privilege to have a deep talk with the brown lolita-san.

“Rocoroco-san, I know it’s a bit late, but do you mind me asking you something?”
“What?”
“About the matter from the other day, you sure did well to realize the existence of a spirit in the field.”
“……”
“Was there some clue for it?”
Her having lived in the mysterious place called Dark Continent should have contributed to it as well. This ordinary Japanese flat-face is wondering whether he might not be getting accustomed to this sort of fantasy. That continent was basically everything-goes. Even the view of plants walking around seemed like it might be a daily occurrence over there.
“…It’s because of our conversation.”
This sort of straight way of speaking makes my heart skip, so I’m kinda troubled here. You made me aware of something I didn’t have in sight. It seems like the date of reverse rape is quickly coming closer.
“I understand. In that case, we must talk a lot in the future.”
“It’s as you say. We’ll talk a lot more.”
“I would definitely be happy if you could take that into close consideration.”
This time I received several favors from you, so even if it’s in the sense of a thanks, I would like to reward you.
Regardless of whether she desires it or not, she knows a lot more than other people, and I believe that knowledge will become increasingly important for everyone else. If the accumulation of such small achievements leads to an improvement of the Goggoru race’s reputation as a whole, I’ll feel very happy.
“…I’m also going to raise something,” Goggoru-chan suddenly muttered while watching the two other girls enjoying themselves.
Is she possibly talking about the gardening hobby this busamen had suggested to her some time ago? I recall that I recommended it as possibly the best way for her, who’s being bored in the middle of the Loligon Tower, to spend her time meaningfully.
“Are you going to challenge gardening as well, Rocoroco-san?”
“I will raise plants, which are a lot more imposing than those of the dragon, and boast about it to her.”
“I see.”
That sounds like another interesting game. It caused this ordinary Japanese flat-face to feel like also joining that challenge.
『W-What was that!?』
Being unexpectedly singled out as a target, the Loligon turned around to us. She stood up straight and stared at Goggoru-chan with surprise coloring her expression. After overcoming the recent events, she probably obtained something akin to confidence in regards to farmwork. Her current attitude was brimming with blame.
Even though we were separated by some distance, the Loligon flared up on us straight from the front. The brown lolita-san dodged that with a nonchalant air. As I watched this happening, I suddenly discovered something interesting at the corner of my eyes.
“Ah…”
“What’s the matter?”
This busamen reflexively raised his voice. The one reacting to that was his blond, thicc loli sensei.
“Edita-san, umm, do you have a moment?”
“W-What is it? Is there s-something you want to ask me?”
The upper breast reveal of sensei as she looked up to me while crouching in front of the field was a sight for sore eyes. Her positioning is perfect. But, if I keep staring, it’ll definitely get exposed.
While feeling pangs of regret, I tore my eyes off and allowed myself to crouch down next to her.
“It’s about that section of the field…”
I pointed with my eyes towards a corner of the field. Strangely colorful new leaves were growing over there while blended in among the other vegetables.
If this ordinary Japanese flat-face isn’t mistaken about its shape, it closely resembles what we’d seen just a few days ago.
Moreover, I felt like it might somehow be faintly trembling. Because there were only new sprouts around previously, I couldn’t recognize it at all. But, now that vegetables are growing around it, this one outlier clearly stood out.
Of course, it’s possible for this busamen to have made a mistake, though.
“…The greater spirit gave i-its praise as well, but e-even so, isn’t it too early?”
Even sensei is surprised by this.
“Is it normal for spirits to be born this easily?”
“No, I don’t think so at all…”
We were curiously staring at the plant growing in the corner of the field. The previous specimen was taken along by the greater spirit. I didn’t hear anything about it having returned either.
In other words, if this is the real deal, it means our field has given birth to yet another spirit. Right now, everyone understands that the existence of a spirit isn’t anything bad. The greater spirit also showed its willingness to assist us, so maybe this in itself is a joyful event.
“Either way, we cannot deny the fact that it was born like this.”
“Is Christina-san’s field such a wonderful place?”
“Well, I think that’s what it comes down to.”
Together with Edita-sensei, I looked at the Loligon who was quarreling with Goggoru-chan. Her appearance as she loudly roared was no different from the time when I met her for the first time. But, various changes might have occurred inside her.
“We w-will see how things turn out w-when that dragon notices it once again.”
“I feel like you will be pulled into trouble again, though.”
“Uuhh…”
If it’s like this, maybe the mayor’s field will be safe from now on as well.

Translation Notes:
- Kabedon is a common trope in shojou manga. Usually a male romantic interest would corner the female protagonist against a wall and slam one hand on the wall next to her, thus blocking her path of retreat and getting very close to her. It’s been picked up as material for gags in some anime and manga.
