Chapter 329: My Sole Weakpoint (As in Me Losing my Mind)

After exterminating all pests, we arrived in front of the boss room. The others had their little point game going on the way here.
“Mother’s magic is first rank, but if we take her out of the equation, then Mr. Sword becomes first rank.”
“I see. Well, no helpin’ it, I s’pose. …Hey, your ‘kay?” Sword gently stroked my head out of worry over seeing me still cry.
“I wan chu leaf kwickly!”
I couldn’t speak well with my nasal voice.
“Gotcha. I’ll kill it instantly. Get the Ryokus to protect you.”
Sword opened the door and entered.
“Gyaaaaaa!!!”
Those black, glossy things leaped at us in swarms. Sword eradicated them in one stroke after swiftly chanting a lightning spell.
“Gyaaaaaa!!!”
Moreover, the boss was a black, shiny, gigantic threat that exposed its legs and belly by standing. Sword chopped it up into small pieces with the laser sword at its highest output. At the end, he finished it off by burning the carcass with fire magic.
*
Sword took a deep breath, came my way, and stroked my head to soothe me.
“Look, I defeated it, ‘kay? So, don’t cry so much anymore.”
I was loudly wailing. But, I mean, anyone would cry in a situation like this! Well, except for Sword, that is!
“It’s scary! Super scary!”
“I’ve gotten rid of ’em all, so they’re gone. No need to cry any longer…”
He accepted me from Ryoku and carried me in his arms. While lightly tapping my back, he left the boss room, continuously comforting me.
*
Being exhausted, we rested in Char inside the safe zone at the entrance to the next floor. After Sword took out some random food and heated it with microwave magic, we ate a simple meal before he told me to get some rest and put me to sleep.
Once I woke up, Sword was drinking booze next to me――though I don’t know whether he’d stayed up all the time or simply woke up ahead of me――while playing around with Mini Mini Knight Armor Boy. Holding a small stick, he was having a small battle against the Armor Boy on top of the table.
Watching the small guy stumble after Sword had swiped away his spear by investing a bit of strength into his attack was lovely.
Seemingly noticing that I was attentively looking his way, Sword faced me.
“Your alright?”
I nodded and sat up. While looking in the distance, I declared doomily, “Going back to the surface will be impossible.”
“Sword ruffled my head, “Next time, hide inside the pod. That’ll fix the problem, right? It ain’t like you gotta force yourself to fight ’em. I got enemies I can’t stand either. We just need to cover for each other.”
Being told all that, I nodded reluctantly.
But, but! Sword says he’s got enemies he can’t stand, but we haven’t encountered any where he showed his disgust to such an extent, have we? I’m really bad with those things, you know?
No, wait, at this point, you can’t describe it with adjectives like cute or weak anymore. They’re my sole weak point, my natural enemy!
*
After a short break, we resumed our dungeon attack once more.
Just in case, I cast laundry magic on all my golems and did some maintenance before we began to move.
“How dare the demon king let such pests loose in the castle! It makes me doubt his sanity, you know?” I grumbled.
In response, Sword retorted, “I told you it’s all ’bout 『bein’ effective as brave countermeasure』, didn’t I? And looking at your reaction, I’d say it works as intended. A monster who makes you, who shouldn’t be scared of ‘nythin’, so afraid, huh? If it gets out, it’ll cause quite some trouble, you see?”
I nodded.
“Indeed, it’ll force me to eradicate this planet from existence.”
Sword immediately stopped dead in his tracks, completely frozen.
“………Hah?”
He asked while looking at me, so I explained.
“I merely maintained my sanity because you and my golems were around. If I had been here alone, I’d have gone crazy and unleashed the big taboo spell on this planet. That’s how much of a natural enemy these things are to me!”
Sword stared at me while lost for words, and then he put on a somber look.
“I’ll kill all of ’em before they get ‘nywhere close to you. Don’t worry. So, keep your wits ’bout you, ‘kay? Also, how about we ask the demon king to change those floors? I’m fine with no treasure chests as a reward for clearin’ this dungeon. Even the demon king would be troubled if you cast a spell that would destroy this planet, let alone his dungeon core, right?”
……You think he’ll be kind enough to listen to our selfish wishes on this?
*
『The demon king speaking here. I shall take this matter into account. So, could I ask you not to make me disappear alongside the castle?』
Ah, another castle-wide announcement.
…Still, our local demon king sure got lots of spare time, doesn’t he? Isn’t he observing us all the time?
I mean, I don’t mind… But, it’s the first time for a dungeon core to talk with us actively, even though we haven’t reached the last boss room.
“That’s great news, isn’t it?” Sword tapped my head.
Yep, indeed. It’s excellent news in all respects.
