Epilogue – Wish

Prime Minister Alkor was at work when Farna entered his office. He was looking through documents, signing them, and sorting them away. Apparently quite focused on that task, he didn’t even try to look in her direction.
“…Do you have a moment?” Farna muttered.
“What is it?”
Prime Minister Alkor’s hand stopped.
“It’s about Princess Tilia’s case. Was it really a good idea to entrust her to Marquis Erakis?”
“It was our lord who said that it would be alright to expel her from the capital while keeping her under surveillance, didn’t he?”
“That is certainly true, but…”
Farna faltered. She shuddered when she remembered the happenings during the audience. The one at fault was her son. That much she knew. But, fear and anxiety don’t follow logic. Even though it was only now, she felt like she could understand why Prime Minister Alkor couldn’t help but to trick Princess Tilia. But then again, Farna didn’t believe that she’d be able to trick Marquis Erakis――
A knocking could be heard. Prime Minister Alkor was tapping with a finger on the desk. A bunch of parchment and paper lay under his finger. Farna was sure those were documents related to Marquis Erakis.
If he wants to reassure me, he should just say so. Sheesh, it’s because he’s that sort of a man.
“You had everything prepared, huh?”
“Otherwise I wouldn’t be suitable as prime minister.”
He should have known that she was being sarcastic, but Alkor was grinning broadly.
“As a result of considering the grand picture, I judged it’d pose no problem even if I entrust Princess Tilia to him.”
“You trust him quite a bit, don’t you?”
“I mean, he’s the son of my acquaintance,” Alkor narrowed his eyes.
As if he was reminiscing about the past.
“We concluded a peace treaty with Holy Kingdom Argo. They won’t give us problems for a while, I expect.”
He thinks everything will go that well? Farna asked herself. Either way, it’s delightful to see that there’s a possibility for Princess Tilia to marry the guy she loves. I’d like her to walk through a second――hopefully peaceful――life.
