New Series Contenders #1 – 2022

Here’s the list of the series I’m considering for picking up as replacement for D-Genesis. They’re split into WN and LN section

Web Novels

1. Allrounders!!

Indra (5) grew up in her family while being shunned and ostracized. When she regained the memories of her previous life, she decided to run away from home and thus trained herself to absurdity. As soon as she left home, she encountered the young adventurer Sword, who looked just like a middle-aged guy. Worrying about the impertinent, eccentric, pointlessly strong, young girl, Sword invited her to go on a journey with him.

This novel has been novelized with volume 1 having been released November 2020. At the moment, 316 WN chapters have been released with the author releasing a new one every 3-4 days. The chapters have the length of Dunbat chapters.

2. 『Curse Nightmare Party』

Curse Nightmare Party is a VRMMO set in a world where there are grotesque creatures, curses, and demons who run rampant. The players are also cursed, taking on strange appearances. It’s a dark fantasy game where you wear equipment enveloped in curses and battle. In such a world, a girl takes on the form of an ominous fairy and begins her adventure.

There doesn’t exist a novel or manga of this. The WN is finished at 1000 Chapters. Just like Allrounders, the chapters are as short as Dunbat. You can read the first 46 chapters here.

3. Fucking Labyrinth Idiot

A crazy youth wanders through a labyrinth as Lvl 1 Magician. Sometimes Harem. The survival rate of new adventurers entering the labyrinth is approx. 30%.

A debt slave boy dives into a labyrinth with just one trifling spell. It’s possible to get revived if you pay for it, but that’s a pipe dream with the earnings of a newbie. Already struggling against three big rats, his comrades lose their lives by falling into pitfalls or getting attacked by rabbits…

With danger always looming over him, he makes the best use out of his knowledge, sometimes puts on an act, other times lies, and always capitalizes on the slightest amount of luck to the very maximum.

This novel has one LN volume from 2019. The WN is still being actively written with a new chapter once or twice per week at a total of currently 488 chapters. The length of the chapters is around the same as Dunbat.

4. Mitsuba Tale

A phony war record of a girl whose consciousness had been pulled over from someplace. She found herself reborn in a noble household, but that place seemed to have some kind of circumstances going on. After pulling several stunts, she was penalized by getting sent to a military academy. It’s the kind of a story where a girl is going to play around, fight, dabble in politics, and die.

Given that she’s a fake, assess her broad-mindedly. Occasionally people with loose screws are going to show up, but well, that’s the kind of story it is.

This is a story from the author of “The Girl Who Ate Death.” She’s been inactive for a longer time, and just recently returned. The number of chapters is “low” with 64, but that’s the kind of writer she is. This story is set to get a LN.

5. Survival Strategy for Weak Territories!

Klein von Asgard is normal, landed nobility as you can find them anywhere. He’s ruling over his peaceful territory without a hitch, but one day a Marquis house suddenly sends their troops, destroying the Asgard territory.

Klein himself dies during that attack as well – or so it would seem, but then he wakes up in the bed of his own room, noticing that he’s returned to three years before the downfall of his territory.

Klein, who confirmed that the same events took place at the same time as his previous time, is convinced that he’s headed for ruin in three years at this rate. In order to avoid this fate, he begins to set up survival strategies with a do-or-die spirit.

But, he dies. Even after repeating it many times over, he dies to trivial things, and his territory gets destroyed.

I don’t want to die. And I don’t want to see my fief’s population getting killed.

Driven by those feelings, he single-mindedly repeats his life. Until the day he’d reach a happy end.

This novel has won a prize and has already 2 LN volumes out, so you can expect it getting licensed down the line. The chapters in the WN are around twice as long as Dunbat chapters with 217 having been released so far. You can read the tags and the first 22 chapters here.

Light Novels

6. Record of Chrono’s Wars

Chrono(real name Kurono) Crawford, a noble of the Cepheus Empire, had a secret. He came from a different world…or to be precise, from modern Japan. He didn’t know how or why he was sent here, he wasn’t bestowed with any “cheat” abilities and his knowledge of modern technology was only that of a teenager’s.

A young man with modern values in a savage world, he is abandoned by his superiors, left in command of the Empire’s misfits consisting of demi-humans such as Minotaurs, Dwarves, and Elves, and thrust into a position as head of a poor fiefdom.

Chrono will do everything he can to rebuild and strengthen his forces and revitalize the land, aided in part by his knowledge from the other world. He is also aided by many capable women and becomes a harem king. (This novel contains explicit sexual content)

This novel is one of the “older” novels that’s still going on with volume 9 slated to come out this month. The LN has been guesslated by a group, but their site was deleted. You can read the first few chapters of the WN and access the tags here

7. Material Collector’s Otherworld Travel Logs

A 28-years old company employee suddenly dies. He’s transmigrated to a certain planet as mysterious boy, and simply wanders the lands while using his convenient, overflowing abilities. The protagonist is the strongest, but doesn’t realize he is. This is no story where cute women are going to pop up left and right. It’s no harem either. There’s absolutely no romance to be found here.

While gathering materials with his unique friends, the youth lives in a different world, traveling all over. Every once in a while, he’ll fight as well.

This story hasn’t been translated as a novel so far. It has a manga out, so you can read it up there. The novel itself needs to be purchased, either as book or on alphapolis. Currently there are 11 volumes available, and since the license rights belong to alphapolis, I don’t know whether it’ll ever get licensed by an English publisher. But seeing how it has already reached that number of volumes, I suspect not.

8. Living with an Obvious Slave Girl

The novel describes the ideal way of a master / slave relationship through stories about a certain master and slave. It’s not just a simple explanation how a slave should be treated….blah blah blah…basically it’s smut.  But I’m not uninterested in trying to widen my repertoire of translation skills, and it comes with many explicit illustrations. Win-win?

The novel got 6 volumes out. Tags are Slave-chan, Gentle World, Fantasy, Male PoV,  Heartwarming.

9. Sky World

Sky World takes place in the eponymous world of the MMORPG, Sky World. One day, thousands of players woke up to find themselves in the world.

Junichiro Mikimori is one of these players who has now come to live in Sky World. The story begins with Junichiro on Altaria Island. There, he encounters an all-female guild and befriends two of its members. Together, they decide to leave Altaria Island and journey to the highest point of the world: Aion Island, in hopes of being able to find a way back to the real world.

I’m wrapping up with an older, forgotten title. Sky World is a novel from 2012 and was once translated by nanodesu, but ended unfinished when the group basically fell apart. It is completed at 11 Volumes of which the first two have been completely translated. You can read them up here. Give it a go, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.
