“I beg you to calm your anger in regards to the impoliteness Priest Albert committed.”

“The Temple of Wisdom provides the most priests as bureaucrats. If there’s a problem with such a temple’s education, I’m duty-bound as royal to inform the king of this, but――”

The face of Orgus as he looked down at me warped as if he was facing trash.

“We will tighten our education so that no one will act rudely towards royalty. Also, please take this as an apology.”

Upon the head priest’s eye signal, my senior priests appeared with a wooden box. The glance I caught of its content told me that it contained a shiny, golden bar.

Basically, they curried favors with royalty by quickly cutting me off and acted out of self-interest so that they wouldn’t lose their posts, and the result of that was my punishment and the bribe in front of my eyes.

Orgus made his goons get the gold and tried to keep me out of his eyes with a gesture as if he was shooing away a dog.

Nothing less of the peerless, undefeated Erwin Mercenaries. They’re level of proficiency is in a league of its own compared to Alexa’s royal army.

After having skilfully secured an escape route, the Erwin Mercenaries gave the temple’s pursuers the slip, succeeding in heading straight for the town they had turned into their hideout. Once we arrived there, I was taken all the way to Malida’s private rooms just like that.

Over there waited Lichere who wore a rather short skirt and a maid outfit with lots of exposed skin.

“Lichere, how come you’re wearing such an outfit?”

As one of the possibilities I had assumed to be the case here, I thought that Malida, the strongest warrior of the Empire, might have pretended to have been exiled while in reality having been sent into Alexa to cause some havoc and chip away at the kingdom’s national power, but it looks like that was a wrong assumption.

“I won’t get angry with you, so please just tell me why you, the Female General of the Elancia Empire, are leading a mercenary band in this country.”

Malida groaned, being at a loss for words. For a while she clearly looked hesitant, but eventually she asked, “You’re really not going to get angry?”
