Chapter 31 – Bed and Bedroom

I created a two-storied building. But I waited with deploying it outside.

As a matter of fact, I had asked Mashiro, who just came back home, to trample the surrounding area flat. With his huge frame as fenrir, it was easy to level the ground.

He worked for us all the time, even as we had our dinner.

Given that the spot, where the hut stood, was now vacant, Mashiro treaded all over it as if it was the end.

“Thanks, Mashiro. If there’s any way I can thank you…”

In response, Mashiro suddenly looked towards the bath. His eyes were burning with passion while his line of sight was blocked by the partitioning screens.

I let out a deep sigh since I had fully understood his wish.

“So far as it goes, I’ll try to ask for you.”

The enrir cheerfully nodded his head several times.

“Hey girls…! It looks like Mashiro is slightly dirty as well, so could you wash him?”

The answer came back immediately.

“‘Course! I mean, Mashiro worked hard for us today, so I’m going to totally wash him!”

“That being the case, I’m indebted to Mashiro as well.”

“I don’t mind either.”

“Right. Mashiro-san is our friend, after all.”

“…You heard them.”

Mashiro barked happily, licked my face, and leaped into the bathing place.

Still, what should I think about a male fenrir who wants to enter the woman’s bath…? Well, since I’m already thankful that a mythical beast is honest and cooperative, I guess it’s fine as long as the girls allow it…

“Now then.”

What was worrying me about the vicinity where I’d be deploying the house was the foundation. Adopting a foundation is definitely a challenge. Of course, I can create the house including the foundation thanks to the almighty Crafting Ability.

But, a foundation is something you basically bury in the ground. I could do my best at digging a hole, but once it’s buried, it will create an issue.

Because it will be 『connected to the ground』, I won’t be able to store it in my Inventory any longer. In other words, we won’t have any choice but to abandon the house and run away, if we find ourselves in a dangerous situation.

Minori told me, who didn’t want to lose our current flexibility, about a traditional method where you seem to build a house on top of stones. To summarize it roughly, you spread out stones and place the pillars of the building on top of those.

When I listened to hear earlier, I vaguely recalled that I might have seen old people’s homes appearing in anime and such.

Of course there’s also a way so that the pillars won’t tilt over, but I can handle that part with my Crafting Ability.

Given that the stones, which will be used as foundation stones, are my creations as well, I’m free to choose whatever shape and size I like.

After deciding on a place where to deploy the house, I finally took it out.

In the next instant, a wooden, two-storied house manifested as if it had always been standing there.

“Alright…!”

People always talk about the dream of having your own home when becoming a working adult, but I never expected that this dream would come true after getting transferred to an uninhabited island.

I crafted a candle stand with a handle out of stone and candles made out of plant oil. Then I lit the candles at the campfire, before returning to the location of the house.

Opening the door, I went inside.

By the way, the house has a hinged door with the hinges made out of wood and stone.

Once you go inside, you’re met by a largish entrance hall. Unlike the time with the hut, I won’t have to store away everyone’s shoes in my Inventory to save space.

I set up a candle stand with candles on top of the shoe box and lit them up. After preparing slippers, which had been knitted with grass, for everyone, I put on my own pair and proceeded.

Next I installed a hearth in the kitchen, and stored cooking tools and tableware on the shelves in addition to firewood.

Moreover, I placed a basket and spare soap in the dressing room slated to be connected to the bathroom. And in the living room I put up several pieces of furniture besides the wool carpet.

I think it’ll be fine to have the girls look at this tomorrow.

Afterwards, I went out on the hallway and climbed the stairs, arriving on the second floor. There were three rooms on the right side and six on the left.

“Ah, placing furniture in the rooms before the room assignment is over is kind of weird…”

Well, if there’s a problem, we can simply move the furniture later.

And thus I installed a desk ,chairs, and shelves in all rooms. I also place a candle stand and candles on all the desks.

But, the big eye-catcher was always the bed. The bedding is made out of woo, and if it was this much, I could have created it yesterday as well, but…the lack of fabric to cover the stuffing and thread to sew it altogether was an issue.

However, the exploration team brought back lots of flax, so this issue has been resolved. I created a bed cover and mattress out of wool, and put those on top of the bed. As an extra, I also added pillows stuffed with wool.

“Isn’t this actually quite nice?”

I feel like the feeling of this being 『Home』 got suddenly boosted.

Given that I finished everything the needed to be prioritized, I stored spears in the armory and killed some time while pondering about stuff that’s necessary in the house before heading outside.

“Yeah, well. I’d really like to have some glass…”

I created a sliding door in the living room and prepared windows in each room, but as a modern person, I yearn for glass windows.

While thinking about that, I stepped outside, just to find the other four staring up at the house in a daze. Them walking around with wet hair and towels around their necks had a charm which was different from usual.

As a side remark, currently they are wearing fluffy wool outfits.

The four noticed me as I stepped outside.

“Sousuke, this is way too awesome!”

Shouko’s reaction was as upfront as always, but it made me happy as I could tell that she was telling me what she really thought.

“Yep…it’s truly amazing.”

Even Shion’s reaction had become rather simplistic.

“A magnificent love nest.”

Chiyu was the same old Chiyu, but I could tell that she was excited.

“Truly magnificent…”

Minori, who had given me advice on various matters, seemed to be deeply moved seeing the house we talked about standing in front of her in the real.

“Everyone, I’m going to take a bath, so please enter the house.”

I handed the candle stand to Chiyu and headed to the bathing area.

“Sou-kun, are you sure? You’re not going to watch my reactions?”

I smiled wryly at Chiyu’s question.

Certainly, I enjoy watching other react to my creation.

“Please tell me your impressions afterwards.”

Casting a sidelong glance at Mashiro, who was sleeping outside the bathing area with a satisfied expression, I entered the bath. As I used the big bathtub for myself, I felt very extravagant.

Then again, I’m not a person who takes long baths, so I tried to get out soon, but…

“Eeeehhhhh!?”

No sooner than hearing Shouko’s yell, I could hear noisy footsteps and then the house’s door was flung open. Since it was hot inside the bathing area, I went outside the partitioning screens while wearing a linen shirt and pants.

Immediately following, Shouko leaped at me.

“Sousuke!”

“It’s dark inside the house, right? Don’t run since it’s dangerous.”

“Ah, yea, I’ll be careful――wait, that’s not it!”

“How was it?”

I was fully aware of my own complacent smile.

“At this point, it’s overkill! I never expected that I’d have my own room with a soft bed after coming to an uninhabited island! The mattress and pillow are super fluffy! I’m totally excited!”

Shouko hugged me tightly. The scent of the soap, her body temperature, and her softness were all passed on to me.

“Ah…S-Shouko-san!”

Minori raised her voice while appearing at the door.

“Ahaha, it was just a reflex.”

With those words, Shouko separated from me.

“It’s a seriously wonderful house. The kitchen has a small counter, so I’ll be able to talk with everyone in the living room while cooking. That makes me glad.”

Shion stepped outside as well.

“I felt your kindness and consideration all over the house, Sou-kun,” Chiyu appeared while nodding deeply.

“I-I’m very impressed by it. No, I guess you could say I’m deeply moved. The wood we chopped together turned into such a dream house. It’s based on your ability, Kuno-kun, but I’m happy I could be of help.”

“No, no, half of it is thanks to you, Minori. You gave me all sorts of advice and in the first place, it’d have been impossible for me to create this house by myself today. Please be proud of your own knowledge and magic.”

I cut one tree while doing my best on the first day, but I remember how my hands became all swollen on top of the extreme exhaustion it caused.

“……Y-You’re right. Thanks. It was fun to make the house together.”

“Yeah, for me as well.”

A peaceful, harmonious atmosphere engulfed us all.

“Is it okay to make Mashiro’s home tomorrow. It looks like he’s already asleep anyway.”

“Yep. I’d love it if you could make it in a location where I can see it from my window.”

“Yeah, no problem. I’ll make sure that you’ll be able to open the window after getting up in the morning and greet Mashiro from there.”

“Yahoo! Yes, that’s exactly what I want!”

Shouko frolicked.

“For the time being, we’re going to call it a day for today, I’d say.”

We already had Shouko’s sheep go back and I put everything that should be stored away into my Inventory. Then I entered the house together with the girls.

On the way, Chiyu came close to me, softly grasped my hand, brought her lips close to my ear, and whispered, “After this, I’ll come to your room, Sou-kun.”

“……”

Instead of answering, I clasped back Chiyu’s hand. It looks like it’s going to take a bit longer until I’ll be able to go to sleep.
