At this point, Lynn’s issues had already been resolved. He would apparently staying the demon king’s country.

I face the demon king and asked, “Okay, Your Majesty, would you allow Sword and me to enjoy ourselves in your dungeon? …By the way, will it be okay for us to kill the beings appearing inside the dungeon? If it’s impossible to revive them, we’ll make sure to not kill them.”

“They can be revived, so no need to worry about that.”

Yahoo!

Sword pulled off a small victory pose. I did a knightly bow towards the demon king.

“Very well, as thanks I will show you a magic spell that has been quite popular among dungeon cores, although I don’t know whether you are the last boss or dungeon core of the dungeon.”

When I dimmed the room, Lynn got all panicky, looking around himself, “W-What…!?”

Ignoring him, I exhibited the chemiluminescence spell to the demon king – the floaty, soft firefly light. Lyn froze as soon as he saw that.

“I don’t know the rules of chanting, but Sword had the dungeon core in the capital teach him the chant for this spell, so Sword will show you the existing chant for it,” I said and looked at my partner.

In response, Sword chanted at an incredible speed while holding a palm up into the air. Immediately after, several firefly lights started to flutter around his palm. And Sword himself also began to faintly glow. Oh, me as well.

We couldn’t see the demon king’s reaction due to the screen, but he told us his thanks.

“You have my gratitude. I shall accept your gift. I can set the dungeon to revive you as well, if you wish, but I think that’s unnecessary. …Well then, let us meet once more at the deepest floor, strongest challengers.”

The demon king’s presence vanished.

It looks like he’s the last boss or dungeon core after all. Going by his words just now, he does feel more like the dungeon core, though.

Once the lighting returned to normal, I noticed Lynn looking at me while speechless. I tilted my head in confusion, causing him to timidly address me.

“……Are you possibly a divine child?”

What’s wrong, Lynn? Did something happen?

Sword burst into laughter.

“Sure, it’s got some mysteriousness to it, but your wrong. Accordin’ to this girl, there’s some theory to this, and she’s simply been reproducin’ that theory with magic. She creates magic arts through the magic elements around her, unlike us who draw ’em from inside our bodies. She can make lightnin’ rain like a divine being, and also ice.”

Lynn became totally speechless, his eyes sparkling. His expression made it clear that he was completely misunderstanding. I should correct things before they get out of hand.

“I’m no divine child. And it’s not like some god lets lightning or rain fall from the sky either. It 『simply turns out like that』, if the right conditions are met. This world has magic elements, so I’m using those magic elements as a substitute for those conditions. …For example, if you heat water with fire, it’ll become warm. There is a reason for that. And if the heated water exceeds a certain temperature, it’ll turn into steam. There’s a reason for this as well. And if that steam cools down quickly, it’ll become a liquid again. That’s rain. And if the rain cools down even more, it’ll become solid. That’s the true identity of the ice falling down from the sky.

And, if the water that has turned into steam and the water that has turned liquid clash, energy is created. When that energy has accumulated into a huge cluster, it drops to the ground. That’s lightning. Did you understand?”

Sword and Lynn were looking dumbstruck.

“If you comprehend that theory, you can let lightning strike down on the ground from the sky by generating energy in the sky through magic elements and let the energy strike the surface through magic elements. Got it!? Very simple, right? Want to try it yourself?”

“”Impossible.””

Both held out a hand in front of me.

Sword further said, “…In the first place, Amato knows that theory of yours and he’s said it’s difficult, so there’s no way we’d be capable of doing this, seein’ how we don’t even understand the theory behind all of this. It’s much easier to think of lightnin’ and rain fallin’ as whimsical act of the gods.”

GAH!

I got angry

“Wrong! It’s a weather condition! It’s even influenced by the terrain! It’s super important whether the area has mountains, flatland, or forests! For example…”

Sword blocked my mouth. By covering the lower half of my face with an eagle claw!

“Mmphphhmm.”

“Gotcha, so spare us the details. I’m fine since I can use magic with chants!”

I protested by flapping my arms.

Lynn watched us with a dejected expression.

“…She’s just like a divine child who can manipulate divine, secret magic, and yet she’s such a disappointing person. Just why?”

How cruel!

After a guide appeared, we left the audience room with Lynn and went to a guest room. We were planning to head into the dungeon next, but since we didn’t have a clue about the geography, we asked about the overall layout of the demon king’s country.

This castle was used for audiences and official duties. The dungeon appeared to be in a castle situated further into the country. Originally you would need to pass through a forest…or rather a jungle…to head there, but it looked as if they’d let us transfer to the castle’s entrance through a portal.

Otherwise the damage to the forest would be too severe, or some such they said.

…But, that’s slander! We’d never destroy Mother Nature, okay?

I thought it’d be very interesting to experience a jungle, but because we were begged to stop destroying the jungle part since it wasn’t part of the dungeon and wouldn’t be restored, Sword reluctantly agreed.

The demonkin had lost all wariness and hostility towards us thanks to the effect of the flying brooms. They were playing around inside the guest room which was laid out with cushions all over.

Go and do your work, damn it!

Moreover, they’ve been pestering me for food and sweets!

…Seriously, they just need to let us go and play in the dungeon for all I care! These guys are really bratty!

When I muttered, “It’s a real mystery how these weaklings are managing to survive in such a rigorous environment,” I was taught that they got portals installed all over the place.

They were doing farming and even animal husbandry in the inland parts located along the sea which had a gentle climate and a lot of flat land.

And on top of all that, they had plenty of golems which were acting as guards for them.

However, since those golems needed mana to move, demonkin seemed to have a lot more mana than humans. So it was okay for them to be wimps as long as they had an abundant amount of mana.

Additionally, their roles in society were decided at birth. Once they turned ten, the demon king informed them of their inborn role. Afterwards, they’d spend the rest of their life fulfilling that role.

…I’d say this is an environment that would be unbearable for anyone with a rebellious or freedom-loving spirit.

“Hmm… Come to think of it, there was an abandoned demonkin child in the Kingdom. I went to the academy together with him. I wonder what sort of role that guy had?”

Once I asked, the other demonkin froze. And then they seriously mumbled amongst each other.

Eh? Is that possibly some sort of major issue?
