Chapter 316: Let’s Go to the Demon King’s Country!

Since we had no other choice, we decided to drop our guest off at the demon king’s country. Actually, we hadn’t planned to go there this time around, though.
The demonkin was apparently called Lynn. Currently he was sitting on the floor, while all depressed, in a corner of Char, grasping his knees and being covered by a blanket.
Yeah, that’s pretty obvious the clear pose of someone being completely dejected. Would he be able to fight anything like this? I mean, many humans are much more malicious than I am.
『
Desert Sightseeing
〉〉 Picked up a fallen demonkin
〉〉 Taking him back to the demon king’s country ← this is where we are right now
』
I sent such a message to everyone.
Sword peered at the screen over my shoulder.
“Hmm… so that’s how you use it, eh?”
“Yeah, pretty much. But, it’d be better to use Mr. Amato or Damsel Scarlet as a reference rather than me. They possess more knowledge applicable to this sort of thing than I do.”
I only sent a message sporadically, if I feel like it, but Damsel Scarlet and Mr. Amato have been frequently chatting via the messaging, or so it seems.
The reply from Damsel Scarlet was immediate.
『Is he handsome? Send me a pic!』
But, even if he’s handsome, what use is it to you anyway? It’s not like you can become friends with him since we’re taking him back home.
I took a photo of him as he was sulking and sent it. I also added, 『Completely burned out now』, as caption.
In response, Mr. Amato answered, 『Lady Indra, it’s wrong to torment him too much, you know?』.
What outrageous, groundless accusations.
*
After crossing the desert, we proceeded towards the demon king’s country. After a short while we arrived at the border’s checkpoint.
The area around here was still dominated by light brown colors, but you could already see greenery growing here and there.
“Lynn, how far should we take you? Personally, I wouldn’t mind driving you all the way to the demon king’s castle either. While at it, we could drop in for a fun visit. I wouldn’t have any problem setting a rule that we’re only going to kill dungeon-born creatures, and spare everyone else, you know? Then we’ll get an audience with Sir Dungeon Core!”
Sword laughed at my words.
Lynn mumbled with a gloomy voice, “……There exists a border checkpoint. Ask for an audience there. I’d like to confirm whether your previous words are true.”
I ended up dumbfounded.
“I don’t know whether it’s true, okay? His Majesty the Demon King has his own way of thinking, just like the demonkin have theirs. All I said is based on a synopsis I drew myself, but in the end, it’s just a hypothesis. In the first place, who cares if it’s actually true? It doesn’t matter at all whether my remarks were true or false when it concerns the demonkin attacking the capital, right? If you want to go to the capital, I’ll take you there. However, now it has to wait until Sword and I had some fun at the demon king’s castle! Once we’re done here, I’ll take you to the capital and duel you over there! Ouch!”
Sword dropped a fist on my head once again.
“I’ve been tellin’ you, it’s too pitiful for you to bash him like that, so give it a rest. He’s finally stopped cryin’, too.”
Does Sword hate soothing him that much?
*
We drove Char while following the navi’s instructions, and eventually reached the border checkpoint.
“Oooooohhh!”
“How incredible!”
It was such a gorgeous and huge gate that it even caused Sword to be astonished.
Some imposing, gatekeeper-like monsters……hmm? Are those possibly gargoyles?
Leaving Lynn behind, Sword and I got out of Char and headed to the golems.
『Human, what business do you have over here?』
Hmm, I see, I see…it seems these things aren’t monsters but golems…no wait, aren’t these actually robots? Though, it talked.
“We picked up the demonkin brave after he collapsed in the desert, so we came here to bring him back. While at it, we also want to play in the demon king’s castle dungeon. Tell Sir Dungeon Core that I’ll show him a magic spell which has been highly popular among other dungeon cores, if he allows us to drop in for some fun.”
After pulling an appalled expression, Sword burst into laughter. The monster-shaped gatekeeper golem was lost deep in thought.
In the meantime I examined the golems here.
“Hmm, okay, I see. So they’re showing stuff like body hair by gathering magic elements and visualizing them. I wonder what sort of material is being used for the core. You’re not going to tell me that it’s something boney, right? Well, since I’m making the exoskeleton out of organic matter, I have no right to say anything about other people’s creations.”
Hmm, I guess it’s also an option to make a golem while using a cat shape as the basis. But then again, some might call it a waste of technology and magic elements.
The gatekeeper reacted to my words by twitching. A lot of attention to detail has been poured into this guy!
『Human, how can you tell?』
Oh my, so I was right, huh?
“Hmm? That’s because I’m building golems as well. Ryoku!”
Once I called for them, they appeared with a whoosh.
“”Nice to meet you! I am Ryoku!””
Lovely!
“They’re cute, right? Those are the Ryokus I made! It’s hard to look at them directly because they’re adorable, don’t you think!?”
『……』
Since there was no helping it, I introduced further, lovely golems.
“Look! Char is cute as well, right!? Char! Show him how lovely you are!”
I thrust a GO sign at Char, relying on his performance.
“Nice to meet you! I’m Char! I’m the vehicle carrying the S-Rank Adventurer Sword!”
He greeted while wiggling his front feelers.
Adorable!
“CUUUUUUUUUTE!”
When I rubbed myself against Char, Sword wedged himself between the gatekeeper golem and me.
“Yeah, well, she’s a bit of a weirdo, so please pretend to not have seen any of this. So, anyway, we picked up a demonkin in the desert. His body and mind have become…slightly weakened. Even at this very moment, he’s sulking under a blanket inside that golem. My partner said she’d take him to our capital, but he doesn’t look like he’ll be able to fight any longer. Take care of him for starters.”
“Wait a second, I still haven’t introduced the ho-mphmpph”
As soon as I tried to protest, Sword silenced me by grabbing my lower face with an eagle claw.
The gatekeeper remained silent for a bit, but then turned around after saying, 『…I understand. I will guide you, so come』.
