Chapter 293: (Gossip) Pumilla’s Fiancé and His Store 2

Exhaustion is written all over the face of my former fiancé Tommy, now married to another woman. His bad skin is quite a sight to behold too.
I and the other employees have beauty products at home as it’s indispensable for us to take proper care of our skin (mostly for the reason that it’d be silly to have bad skin when you’re selling skin-care products), so I feel like seeing a person with rough skin for the first time in a while.
“I’d like to talk with you for a bit. Could you let us into the store? Please call Benjamin, too.”
……I’m not quite comprehending what he’s talking about.
Our store can only be entered by those who won in a fiercely contested lottery, okay? Of course we will receive customers in our store if they have a referral from our patrons, but people who don’t buy anything during their visit are turned away at the door next time, you know? Our store is one where a ducal family shops frequently.
And you tell me to let you in there since you want to talk with me? Rather, I gotta hand it to you, you’ve got quite the nerve to spout something so impudent, haven’t you?
*
Noticing that I was standing bolt upright, Baroque came over.
“Is something the matter, Pumilla?”
At that point, Baroque apparently realized that the couple standing in front of me included my former fiancé. Baroque had been acquainted with Tommy too, and thus she was aware of all the events so far plus my brother’s contract.
Naturally, her expression turned grim.
Seeing that, Tommy started to look somewhat awkward, but his wife kept glaring at me.
Incredible. I don’t even get why she’d glare at me like that.
“……Pumilla? Is something the matter?” Baroque asked once more.
Since it’d be rude to not answer her, I said, “……I might have misheard, but I feel like I was just told to let them into the store since he wishes to have a talk…”
Hearing that, Baroque also stood bolt upright, looking dumbfounded.
The woman on the other side grew tired of waiting for us, and addressed me with an annoyed tone, “Hey, why are you making us stand out here while talking? If you have worked in a store in the past, you’d know that it’s rude to make customers wait outside the store like this, right?”
Baroque and I were too stunned by her words.
Customers!? Did she just call herself a customer!?
A ton of people would love to become our customers, and countless people have already been sent packing at the door to our establishment!! Besides, where did all the talk about us doing no business and having no relation whatsoever go!?
Baroque completely ignored the woman and addressed Tommy, “Our shopkeeper should have made a contract with your store and the person running the store of the woman next to you that we won’t have anything to do with each other in the future, so why did you come here? Besides, did you think sending letters is somehow covered by the contract or some nonsense like that? If you cannot abide to a contract as a merchant, you’ll be judged to be an untrustworthy merchant, you know?”
Tommy grimaced, and then he started to blurt out something unbelievable while staring at me.
“I wanted to talk about that contract. I’d like you to revoke it since we’re going to apologize. Please allow me to meet Benjamin. No, Pumilla, you talk to Benjamin and having him cancel the contract.”
……At this point, calling it appalling doesn’t even cut it anymore. I didn’t expect him to be such a shameless man.
It’s just as Lady Scarlet said: It’s great that I comprehended this before the marriage. If I had married such a man, my life would have been terrible. It’s set in stone that I’d have become a cumbersome burden to my brother.
As I was unable to answer anything, Baroque got angry in my stead and bluntly told Tommy, “There’s a limit to how shameless one can be. This is the perfect example for using 『How dare you』. You’re a real piece of shit to say such things after readily discarding your fiancée, who had supported you for many years, for the sake of some adulterous woman. Seeing your unscrupulous audacity, I can only feel rage. Even though you quickly went with the girl of some slightly bigger store after getting swayed by your short-term greed, you’re now trying to switch back to this store just because the store of your former fiancée’s brother has become popular?”
“What was that?” The woman raised the outer corners of her eyes, but Tommy cast his eyes downwards as if having been stabbed where it hurts.
Oh my, it seems you were spot on, Baroque.
I spat out a light sigh, lightly bowed my head and turned on my heels.
“…I’m busy, so please excuse me.”
“…Pumilla!”
I really hate him acting so familiar with me. we’re already unrelated. Rather than wasting time on this, I must…I must read and write letters…
I’ve got confirmation that it was the correct decision to have broken off the engagement and this whole show served as little change of pace. Now it’s time to get back to work.
“Hey! Let us inside the store!”
“Please limit your tomfoolery to just your appearance, okay? This store has been built by the great sorceress and partner of Hero 【Thunderclap Whitefang】, Lady Indra, for the owner. It’s the best store in this country, completely decked out with the newest and most amazing magic tools. The capital is overflowing with people who wish they could be our customers. It’s not the sort of store that can be easily entered by some rude, shameless country hicks. Please be so kind and hurry back home into your backwaters.”
Wow, that was scathing! You’re so cool, Baroque!
The woman apparently snapped and tried to grab Baroque, but she shrieked piercingly in the next instant.
“Tadah! The hero has entered the scene!”
A Ryoku had interfered before she could cause any harm. The woman had probably screamed, believing that Ryoku was a monster.
“Baroque-san, do you need my help?”
“Could I leave it to you? Please get rid of them.”
“Ayessir!”
Leaving the rest to Baroque and Ryoku, I went back inside the store.
*
The Ryokus are cute. I can totally understand why Lady Indra dotes on them.
Whenever I feel tired, I chat them up. Their replies are funny since they are completely unexpected. Most recently, I’ve befriended the horbs a bit as well.
Just as Lady Indra said, they become emotionally attached to you if you talk and dote on them. I want to get along with them even better.
