{Guildmaster}

――The residents of this town must feel conflicted. Originally all of us would love to freely rejoice over the auspicious event of an S-Rank adventurer visiting our place.

According to the information passed down among guilds, 『S-Rank Adventurer 【Thunderclap Whitefang】 formed a party with a new partner. They cleared the capital’s dungeon while employing golems never seen before, and even though the town, where they set up their base, is a small place with no special traits worthy of mention, it has been prospering at a level that doesn’t fall short to the capital in comparison』

A message from the guildmaster of Seay’s guild reached me as well.

He was full of praise about them, saying 『If they open a bar, you must go there, no matter what』, 『It’s full of food and drinks, made by the companion of 【Thunderclap Whitefang】, that you’ve never tasted before』, and 『He’s a genius』.

However, unlike Seay’s residents, we couldn’t rejoice over their visit without much of a thought. After all, we got a youth called 『Shining Lightning Star』 over here.

His way of speaking and acting got some weird quirks, and there’s also the disadvantage that adventurers disliking him usually end up moving elsewhere, but he’s the sole B-Rank adventurer in this town. And this town is working so well because he’s readily completing all the requests for us.

The number of requests over here is far too high, considering the number and quality of adventurers we have, and thus the town would be in trouble if he left because we hurt his feelings. And because the town’s residents are aware of this as well, they didn’t celebrate the visit of the S-Rank adventurer.

In reality, we wanted to welcome them a lot more friendly. I mean they visited us for the first time ever. And if you consider the distance from the capital, them visiting this place is close to a miracle to begin with.

But, because he’s viewing the S-Rank adventurer as his rival, it puts us in a bind.

Thinking so, I was being evasive. I kept things ambiguous, but…

As a guildmaster, I didn’t understand what S-Rank actually meant. I didn’t comprehend why S-Rank adventurers received a hearty welcome. I didn’t understand why only three of them existed. I didn’t understand how capable an adventurer had to be to be accepted as S-Rank.

The gap between an S-Rank and a B-Rank adventurer is so big that one couldn’t fathom the distance between both, let alone think of closing that gap.

Especially Hero 【Thunderclap Whitefang】 is the strongest in magic and swordsmanship. When he heard his partner scream, he appeared over there before the echo of the scream faded, having his sword drawn with such a speed that no one present could tell when he had actually pulled the blade out of its scabbard. As for magic, he was versed in all kinds of magic and could cast the spells by chanting them in an instant.

He easily lifted up a brutal moray of a size and weight which would normally require twenty brawny fishermen. That went far beyond a human feat.

Moreover, his courageous spirit caused his eyes to gleam in expectation over the possible attack of a dragon when he misunderstood that we were going to hold an S-Rank exam.

Everyone knows just how strong dragons are.

He was someone who had experienced a dragon’s strength firsthand, fought it, and repelled it, and yet he got excited over the prospect of facing such a formidable foe once more.

…I think Shining Lightning Star wouldn’t pull back if he knew that a dragon was going to attack our town. He’d declare that it was the perfect chance to make a name for himself, and stand his ground, I’m sure.

But…what would he do when he truly saw a dragon…when he encountered a mighty foe whose strength he couldn’t begin to gauge?

――I managed to deal with matters peacefully since I assigned Shining Lightning Star to a request that would take him far away from the town. I don’t know what reckless action he would have taken, if I hadn’t done so.

They were opponents he would never be able to win against. And I’d love him to live his life without ever becoming aware of this.
