Chapter 259: A-A Violet Ryoku!?

After telling the members of Taking It Easy with a Smile to wait here, we headed into the woods. Apparently some big mob was lurking deep inside the forest. It was pretty quick and people supposedly didn’t come back alive once spotted by it, so no one really knew what it was.

Still, it’d sure be nice for such a monster to be in here. As we headed deeper inside while excited, we ran into a violet Ryoku!

We stiffened up.

……But, on a closer look, it’s clearly not a Ryoku. The body line is similar, but it’s not as mechanical as the Rykous, and on top of that, its exterior is overgrown with hair.

――In other words, a monster? The one you’d usually call Something-Spider?

“Hello?” I tried to greet it, thinking that it might be capable of speech.

“Gichigichigichi.”

The spider answered!

“You’re a monster? What’s your name?”

“Gichigichigichi.”

It sounds like it’s from a sub-species called Assassin Spider. It touted itself to be more amazing than Death Spiders and Poison Spiders as it was smaller and faster.

“Okay, I see.”

“Gichigichigichi.”

It apparently thought of the Ryokus as its brethren.

“No, they aren’t your brethren. These two are golems I made.”

“Gichigichigichi.”

It was disappointed and sad. Its brethren had decreased in numbers, and before long it was the only one left alive.

“Hmm, is that so? …No choice then. Want to come with us? You might find some of your brethren if you travel around with us.”

Sword looked at me, saying, “Oh well, why not. …By the way, can we ask you to provide us with some of your threads? Threads can be turned into cloths, so we can pretend to have tamed a spider by sellin’ its threads to the guild.”

The Assassin Spider apparently understood Sword. As soon as it hissed, it swiftly bundled its thread into several balls akin to wool balls.

“Sword, it sounds like you can talk with it normally?”

“…Guess so. It irked me that Amato could do it, so I trained a bit.”

Just as I thought. Still…isn’t Sword regarding Mr. Amato as a rival? Some time ago he had mentioned that he felt like he lost to Mr. Amato after Mr. Amato praised my cooking first.

Mr. Amato wouldn’t try to fight him since he’s got enough common sense to know better, but he got quite the cheat specs since he’s a brave, right? That’s probably why.

Sword went back to town and reported things at the guild. Then we headed for the next town while moving through forests as much as possible.

Shikibu (the name I gave the Assassin Spider) went around all over the place, but she couldn’t find any of her brethren, or rather, any spiders at all. Since she looked very pitiable, I fed her while consoling her.

Fruits were her favorites. And she happily devoured them whenever I gave her some. So cuuuute!

Moreover, she also ate magic stones. Once I gave her one of those, she made a fabric for me as a thanks! She could actually weave!?

But, thinking about it, spider webs are also woven!

Anyway, the interior of the camping car immediately became luxurious.

Once we looked at the area from above, the town at the nearby mouth of the river seemed to be prospering, so we decided to go there.

The Taking It Easy members had worked hard at learning how to drive and were now mostly able to handle a car without any issues. Since they were using a kitchen car, I’d have been troubled if they couldn’t do stuff like parallel parking, so it took a load off my mind.

Furthermore, I started to serve everyone’s meals at the kitchen car to train those guys. As might be expected of capable people, they learned things in no time and became able to cook some of the dishes themselves.

As always, they utterly lacked any sort of independence though… Even so, they were motivated, so I guess they are good subordinate material. Yep.
