As I pinned a glare on Sword, he turned away in a huff.
“…I was just a bit jealous of you or Sir Dungeon Core usin’ it, so I had Sir Capital Dungeon Core teach me the spell chant. Afterwards, I thought I might pep it up by addin’ holy and light magic, so when I asked him, he created the appropriate spell chants to include those.”
WUUUTTT!? Sir Dungeon Core can create spell chants!?
“That’s Sir Dungeon Core for you!”
“Certainly, it ain’t ‘nythin’ to scoff at, but your the source of the spell itself, aren’t you?”
He ruffled my head. And as he was doing so, the light converged, revealing the high-handed guy who had been freed from the soil that buried him for some reason.
Does holy magic have such an effect too? That’s truly incredible then.
“Uh huh, it comes with a flashy show and the time of the chemiluminescence’s glow feels just right, too,” I nodded.
Sword agreed, “Yep, you got it.”
The saint stared at Sword with a dumbfounded expression. Noticing that, Sword continued ruffling my head while saying to her, “This girl here created the original magic art and taught it to Sir Dungeon Core who we befriended back when we cleared the capital’s dungeon. Sir Dungeon Core reworked it into a spell chant and taught it to me after addin’ holy magic. So if you know any holy magic more amazin’ than this, go ahead and show it to us.”
I see. I finally understand why even Sword started to address Sir Dungeon Core politely. He’d probably realized Sir Dungeon Core’s greatness when he got him to create the spell chant.
…Still, somehow Sword is weak to beautiful people. His lover seemed to have been quite a stunning beauty as well, he always treats Plana kindly, and since Sir Dungeon Core is pretty too, Sword met him in secret.
Goddamn it, he’s such a sucker for good-looking folks!
The saint’s spirit apparently broke. No wait, maybe it was broken from the very start? She dropped her shoulders and head as if drained of all strength. Her attendant didn’t find any words to console her and sank down to the floor.
Meanwhile, a carefree bunch of people behind me clamored, “Whoa! Nothing less of a hero! Wow!”
“It was so nice and glittery!”
“Man, S-Rank adventurers sure don’t mess around!”
*
“It looks like the saint has retired. The winner is Sword. You don’t have any objections to that, do you?”
The saint nodded lightly with her head hanging. When I looked at her attendant, he was trembling all over, so he must have lost all strength.
Sword sighed very deeply.
“Well, I guess we should be happy that things finished with somethin’ of this level after gettin’ involved with the saint,” he muttered, causing everyone to look at him. Then he added with an annoyed expression while scratching his head, “…The previous saint was terribly domineerin’. When I carelessly used holy magic at some point, she designated me as her enemy and chased me all over the place. She even went as far as sendin’ assassins and honey traps, givin’ me a really bad time.”
“Hmm, I see. I’m envious of you, though… Why is trouble always seeking you out so easily while it keeps avoiding me?”
“That’s what I wanna know. Or rather, I wanna learn your ability to have fun while turning the tables on all the trouble comin’ at you.”
Is that the line of a guy who delivered a flying kick against me when I had that very fun?
*
“I would prefer if you don’t lump us together with that woman!” The high-handed guy suddenly bit back in anger.
“The parts about you people being domineering and marching in on us while targeting me is the same, isn’t it?” I said and Sword nodded.
The attendant guy shrank away a bit, but immediately started with some incomprehensible defense, “T-That’s because that woman doesn’t show any respect to Lady Lala and looks down on her! Because of that, Lady Lala hasn’t been approved of yet despite being the saint. Other people assess Lady Lala lowly too and since that made me feel ashamed, I’ve been exhibiting Lady Lala’s authority! Moreover, if 【Thunderclap Whitefang】 becomes Lady Lala’s guard, it should help with recovering Lady Lala’s influence!”
I tilted my head, “…I don’t get how Sword becoming her guard and you throwing your weight around relate to the recovery of her authority, but…if you let me give you a piece of advice… Those with the disease of 『being able to hear voices no one else can hear』 are sometimes high-handed and arrogant. After all, they utter nonsense like 『I am the only one capable of hearing the voice all those ignorant commoners cannot hear! Fuhahahaha! …Ugh, the Evil Eye sealed in my right eye is throbbing…!』. Of course it’s anything but true that something like an evil eye has been sealed in their right eye, unlike Sword!”
At once, Sword retorted, “Wait a sec, that makes it sound like I’ve got that sickness. I have nothin’ sealed in my body, ‘kay?”
You think so? Personally I think that you’re just being chased around by those sickos out of jealousy because you can reveal that you sealed something in a very casual, normal way.
Oh, the saint has become bright red while covering her ears.
*
“So, you just need to confront your predecessor with lines like the ones I just told you! You simply need to keep telling her, 『Your harmful, old pest, hurry up and retire! The voice you’re hearing is nothing more than tinnitus or auditory hallucination as it’s characteristic to old farts like you! Since I can hear god’s voice loud and clearly, you may feel relieved and depart on your journey to the next world! …Ugh! God’s song is thundering inside my head…!』. Got it?”
“Doesn’t that make it sound like I’m a nutcase?” The saint yelled while crying.
“I can fully understand your feeling of not wanting to admit it. In my younger days, that kind of sickness was quite prevalent. Even the current brave seems to suffer from it, you know? I’m sure you and him will feel embarrassed as soon as the sickness abates. …That sort of past is usually called 『Dark History』.”
“You’re totally wrong~~!” She cried even harder.
Moreover, her way of speaking became childish.
“Indra, could you give it a rest with cornerin’ her any further?” Sword stopped me.
