Imperial Calendar, Year 431, Beginning of May
Chrono stared at the fields. They were sprawling in the south of Harshel. Thin trees and cute, green leaves were growing out of the ground. Those were the trees that would later become paper and beets.
“When is the harvest going to be?”
“It will be in October.”
Once he looked to his side, he found Shion standing there. She tilted her head as if asking whether something was wrong.
“Is the cultivation of clover going well?”
“Yes. But there are rumors circulating that eating clover improves livestock growth and milk production. I wasn’t able to verify this, so…”
“You don’t need to worry since something good took place,” Chrono called out to Shion, who was slumping her shoulders while looking apologetic, as gently as possible.
Not only will clover restore the fields’ fertility, but it will also be useful for livestock breeding. With these many advantages, the farmers should voluntarily plant clover on fallow soil.
“Lord Chrono.”
Hearing his name being called, he turned around. Layla was standing there in full armor. She was holding a rather short, mechanical bow. It was something they had developed to make handling a horse easier.
Indeed, Layla had successfully changed jobs from archer to cavalry archer.
“Everything is ready for us to depart.”
“I got it. Ms. Shion, please take care of the fields and the orphanage administration.”
“You can count on me.”
Once Shion nodded, Chrono started to walk away. Being led by Layla, he arrived at the gate. One box-shaped carriage and ten covered wagons were parked close to it. The ones riding the covered wagons would be forty infantrymen and ten archers, led by Taiga. Close to the wagons were four mounted cavalry, which included Fay, and a riderless horse.
“Lord Chrono, I will take my leave at this point.”
“Do your best, okay?”
“Yes!”
Layla answered happily and headed over to the lone horse. She put a foot into the stirrup and jumped on the back of the horse.
Chrono was well aware that she had worked bloody hard over the last two weeks. However, he didn’t think she’d reach a point where she could go into battle after just two weeks of training.
He sighed and headed over to the box-shaped carriage.
Suddenly, Sub called out to him from the driver’s seat, “This time I will be serving as your driver as well.”
“I’m in your hands then, Sub.”
“Aye, leave it to me.”
When Chrono boarded the carriage, Shaela was already sitting inside. The degree of exposure on her clothing had decreased again.
“Why are you pulling such a disappointed expression?”
“I mean, your clothes aren’t as revealing as before.”
“I’m going back home for the first time in a long time, so let me at least dress up properly.”
Chrono sat down next to her.
“Your family is going to be surprised, right?”
“Well, that’s for sure. After all, their daughter, who ran away from home chasing after a guy, will be coming back as a widow.”
“No, that’s not it…they’ll be surprised when they learn about you being my lover, won’t they?”
“Ugh,” groaned Shaela.
A little while later, the carriage started to move.
