Chapter 331: It Seems to Be a Gathering of Touchy Life-Forms

Apparently, all life-forms in the demon king’s country, and not just the demonkin, were quite sensitive and touchy. Once we tried to get caught in its trap, even knowing its setup, the monster trembled and hopped away.
“…Starting with the demonkin, the creatures in this country are quite touchy, aren’t they?”
Once I mumbled that while watching the monster hop away in sheer amazement, Sword spat out, “Your simply on the 『extremely opposite side』 of sensitivity. I gotta admit, your amazin’ for even breakin’ the spirits of dungeon monsters. What’s with that unnatural actin’ of yours? I mean, I can totally understand monsters runnin’ away while sobbin’ ’bout being ridiculed by you!”
I haven’t done anything like that! I’m a very sensitive person myself! I’m so sensitive that I ended up crying as soon as I saw those gross, shiny, black things skitter around!
…But, no helping it, I suppose.
Since we couldn’t get the monster to trigger the trap for us, we moved on while steadily seeing through all the tricks.
*
Still, we got a part of the tender-hearted monster to spring their traps for us. I enjoyed being teleported in front of the door I had just opened and entered, being transferred from one stair landing to another, being tricked to believe that I had shrunk through enlargement magic being cast on my surroundings, and being locked up in another space after allowing myself to be eaten by a painting’s monster.
“Ehehe! How fun!”
“Isn’t that great? At least we’ve got some kind monsters around as well.”
I had my hair ruffled up by Sword.
But, although he said all that, he was having a blast himself as well!
*
And then, after we (Sword alone) finally destroyed all traps, we headed to the boss room. Sword had already discovered all the stair traps and dispatched them. The idea here was probably to go around in circles many times over before eventually discovering the space distortion, okay? Do you actually get that part, Sword?
Well, not like it matters anyway.
*
Once we opened the boss room’s door…
“…This is yet…how to call it…?” Sword commented, showing his shock as he looked at the boss.
An art monster, which looked like a two-headed creature made out of thin, flat strips, was sitting in the center of the room. With its back being the front and the front being its back, it looked like two monsters despite being just one. It seemed to be invoking space magic.
It didn’t work on me, though.
“*grmbl*…being able to see everything sure doesn’t come in handy.”
Sword looked at me and answered my mutter with a wry smile, “That might be true for you who wants to enjoy herself. But, I think usually it’d be the other way ’round.”
I stared at Sword with a sullen face, snorting.
“Even you understand that being able to see everything isn’t any fun, and that’s why you’re not using the glasses allowing you to see everything, right?”
“Yep.”
He agreed! He just went and agreed there! How brazen of him!
“So you finally admitted that you’re not normal at all, huh?”
Once I said so, Sword shrugged his shoulders, “I’m well aware that I’m not normal in a different sense of you. But, compared to you, I’m the most normal person on the planet. It ain’t like I can invalidate all sorts of status abnormalities, and I’d die if I get hit by magma or blocks of ice, okay?”
Liar!
He just didn’t test it out. I’m sure he wouldn’t die even if hit by any of those.
*
Finishing our conversation, Sword got ready and unleashed a slash. The front (temporary) blocked Sword’s attack!
“Tsk!”
Sword clicked his tongue and quickly chanted a spell, unleashing lightning magic. At once, Sword’s spell was blocked by the back (temporary)!
And since the lightning was reflected back at us, I canceled the spell by dispersing the spell’s energy. In the meantime, Sword fell back to my side.
“…What a nasty enemy. One side is immune to physical attacks while the other side is immune to magic attacks.”
Seeing Sword grimace, I cocked my head in confusion, “Won’t it be just fine if you attack with both?”
If I remember, Sword got his little collection of magically imbued swords, doesn’t he? …But just when I thought so, I got glared at by Sword.
Eh? He can’t? Why?
“…Let me confirm just one thing: a flame sword isn’t a weapon capable of combining magic and physical attacks?” I asked.
Sword scratched his head, apparently having understood my confusion.
“Ah…is that how you’ve interpreted it? Sorry, but your wrong.”
I see. I learned something new.
*
Now that Sword’s swords would be of no use here either, I took a step forward and said, “Okay, then I’ll get rid of it.”
“Huh?” Sword asked back while looking flabbergasted.
I grinned at him, “I mean, you’d be able to do it as well, if you got serious, but you’re saying such things because you’re unwilling to do so, right?”
Didn’t Sword cut a wall with the after-wave of his sword’s slash when he got serious? If he gets so serious, he can cut anything. And the same applies to me as well.
If you can cut a rock with a wooden sword, there’s no way you can’t cut through a monster that invalidates physical attacks, right?
I went in front of the boss monster and delivered an Iai slash against the monster as it swooped down on me.
*
“――And that’s how you do it. You should have been capable of the same if you got serious,” I told Sword while the monster collapsed behind me after being cut in half.
Sword stared at the monster with his mouth gaping, and then shifted his eyes to me.
“…Well, sure, you can cut a dragon, which is harder than steel, with your wooden sword. There’s no way somethin’ as simple as a physical attack immunity would stop you.”
Don’t act like it’s just me.
“And that comes out of your mouth, who added a crack to that wooden sword, eh?”
Sword laughed in response to my retort.
