Chapter 44 – Shampoo and Shift System

Shouko’s yell of admiration thundered across the dining room.
“Hehe, it’s nice that I could make you happy.”
The main course of dinner was bear spare ribs with a balsamic vinegar sauce. It came with several veggies around the spare ribs. The sauce was a mixture of balsamic vinegar and sugar.
“It’s really delicious. This salty and sweet taste makes me want to eat rice…”
I’m a healthy high school boy, so I usually want to eat rice with my meat anyway, but this time that urge felt stronger than normal.
“Hehe, I’d love to have rice as well. In reality, things like pepper, garlic, or potato starch would be great as well, but I guess I have to hope for those being provided through future explorations.”
“Nn, if it widens the range of your cooking repertoire, I’ll gladly go explore, Shio-chan,” Chiyu commented while chewing on a piece of meat.
I could fully agree with that opinion. If it means that Shion’s repertoire grows with each newly discovered ingredient, I’ll put all my fighting spirit into this.
“The salad is great too. This also uses balsamic vinegar, right?”
“Yep. Because we ate it just like that up until now, it feels even tastier now, doesn’t it?”
True. Since our only seasoning option was salt, we used that.
Still, this is great. I’m repeating myself, but I’d love to have some rice or wheat soon. Though everything depends on the mysterious blackboard.
We enjoyed dinner together until the girls’ bath time started. We would wear our uniforms from morning until evening, but as soon as we took our evening bath, we’d change into wool or linen clothes. And once we rose in the morning, we’d put our uniform on once again.
“Oh, right, Minori, what’s the difference between shampoo and soap?”
In response to my question, Minori placed a finger on her chin and answered me with the same expression she’d always have when considering how to explain something.
“Let’s see… There are also various kinds of shampoos. You can wash your hair with soap, but because it’s alkaline, it will irritate your hair strongly. If you are going to make shampoo, I think you should aim for an amino acid-based shampoo. Coupled with the moisturizer we got on this island, it will be good for our hair.”
“Oh, I see. For the moment, it seems like we can wash our bodies with soap, so please tell me how to make amino acid-based shampoo.”
“Yes, of course.”
If I add a fat, which Minori classified for me, and glutamic acid, which would be extracted from kombu and similar sources, to the sodium carbonate and water I already have, it would be possible to create an amino acid-based shampoo. Lastly, a moisturizer called Squalane would be added. The moisturizer was apparently an item I had obtained while shearing the sheep. After I got the full explanation from Minori, the shampoo was added as an item to my Inventory.
The sheep…have really been a blessing, haven’t they? Maybe it’d be a good idea to have Shouko summon them once more.
“With that said, I completed the amino acid-based shampoo, which contains plenty of natural moisturizer.”
I poured the shampoo into a stone container, preparing portions for each girl. In addition, there’s the aromatic soap.
“I tried putting those new recipes to use right away. Please tell me if you have any wishes.”
I completely believed that I’d please everyone as usual, but instead, the living room fell completely silent. The four girls stared at the shampoo and soap on the table.
“What’s wrong? Is there something weird about them?”
Just as I started to feel somewhat insecure, Chiyu hugged me from the front.
“Sou-kun, my affections for you as your childhood friend have reached new, unknown heights.”
Chiyu pressed and ground my forehead against her cleavage. She seems to be quite delighted. While I felt relieved by that, Shouko leaped at my back.
“Sousuke, you’re a god!”
Her boobs were squishing against my back, causing me to recall the events at the ocean.
“Even though I thought I had finally managed to repay you a bit at last, you immediately gave me something new. At this rate, I’m never going to repay my debt with you fully,” Shion said while looking troubled as she leaned against my left arm.
“I will definitely reward you for this, so if you come up with a good idea, I’d be happy if you could tell me, Sousuke-san,” said Minori while clinging to my right arm, despite looking somewhat embarrassed.
This is the very definition of a harem, but at the same time, I can’t relax because my heart is beating so fast.
“Mino-chan, that sounded kind of lewd.”
“Minori, for you not to only be good at studying, but also at triggering male instincts…that’s a total cheat.”
“Ughh…you’d never think that she’d been saying “How indecent!” at every sign of eroticism until just yesterday.”
“Y-You guys are so mean…!”
Minori was teary-eyed, her face bright red. The other girls were obviously teasing her, but maybe Minori simply has little experience with such bantering. Her adaptability is high, so she’ll probably learn to counterattack or go with the flow sooner or later.
Eventually, the four were satisfied and separated from me, heading to the bathroom with the new shampoo and soaps. I went with them since it was necessary to add hot water to the bath. After ensuring the water temperature was fine, I went back into our house.
“Ah, I have already taken a bath, so please leave the bathtub as is for today.”
I think it’ll be fine to store and redeploy the water tomorrow. I went back to my room while hearing the four of them’s answers.
When I was alone in my room, I suddenly got an idea and made a paper out of wood. I spread it on the desk and sat down. Using charcoal, I tried to draw something like a map while relying on candlelight, but…I could only create something at the level of a child’s treasure map.
“W-Well…I think it’ll be fine as long as you can tell the general locations.”
Ocean, forest, base. The place where I went with Minori to fell trees. The places where we gather special items. If I share this information with my friends, it might be possible to make our explorations more efficient.
“Hmm…I guess it’d be better to ask Minori or Shion for a clean copy.”
The right person in the right place for stuff like this.
“What about me?”
Suddenly, Shion was peering my way from behind me.
“Whoa…S-Shion!? Did you already finish your bath?”
Steam rose from Shion, whose body was wrapped in fluffy clothes. Her black hair was shiny, her skin springy, and her cheeks tinged scarlet.
“Hehe, you’ve been quite focused. We have all finished a while ago.”
“I-I see… So, why are you in my room?”
Shion blinked at my question.
“Huh? Haven’t you heard from Chiyu-chan? Sorry, I thought you already knew, so I entered your room on my own accord.”
“Heard what?”
Shion explained while looking bashful.
“You see…umm, you could call it a shift for being with you at night…or rather, the privilege to sleep with you. The four of us have decided to take turns.”
…No way. In other words, yesterday was Chiyu’s day, and today is Shion’s, huh? Meaning tomorrow and the day after will be Shouko and Minori’s turns.
“You…dislike it?”
I immediately shook my head, “As if!”
“That’s good to hear. Even though she said she cast Heal on you, I heard you released plenty today, so I was kind of worried that you might not react to me anymore.”
Come to think of it, I blew several loads for Chiyu, Shouko, and Minori over the day. Chiyu’s Heal fully recovers one’s vitality as well, but it was still a crazy number of times. Shion looked very relieved when she heard my response and sat down on my bed.
