In the way I understood it, Frau only became able to create the gems after being fed a considerable amount of Renyas mana, so by the time the murder happened she still was unable to produce them.

Something like the merchant sacrificing the women to be made into gems/jewels which is then sold for major profit?

Well, I didn’t expect it to have such degree though because the western culture makes vinegar out of many different things as base (including crops, vegetables, fruits and regular known alcohol). I would have thought that Japanese make it from different stuff as base too. Oh, well, guess not. xD

In Rice cultures like japanese and Vietnamese, both vinegar and wine can be made from rice using similar method. liquorice, see?

And indeed we can not replace rice with bread in meals. After eating two or three rice-less meal we start get cravings for it.
