I don’t remember such an explanation, so he might have been either of those. The church supported him in the war though, so he was either appointed by the church or summoned.
I think the author left it vaguely cause all that matters for the story is that a hero existed and died on that day in that battle though. 🙂

I may have forgotten, but were there any explanation on what kind of hero was the hero? Was he a summoned hero? A hero appointed by the Church or country? A hero because of his merits?
