In reply to SanitaryCockroach. The story doesn't say that the Japanese history was peaceful though? It just states that Souma comes from the peaceful modern Japan, like as in right now? And that era is indeed peaceful, not just in Japan for that matter.

Ya know, while I am really enjoying the story so far, I can’t help but be annoyed by common statement in LNs of Japan being “so peaceful” and “removed from war”. Japan was one of the most militarized societies up until 70 years ago. And just like the Indian wars, the Holocaust, and other horrors, Japan has committed its share of atrocities too. Why does it feel like the Japanese don’t remember this? I know Nanking certainly remembers. Anywho, thanks for the chappie!

He doesn’t have to do anything, it’s psychological thing: soldiers will be too afraid to jump (imagine swimming in armor), meaning more of them will pile on each other on the pits meaning more casualties due to balls rolling behind them.
