You are dealng with a powerful mage. One that can teleport. The only reason he should fall to a simple monster swarm is if he ran out of mana (likely defending a large number of troops, like his master). But he could just grab his harem and bros adn run.

It seems simple enough- while that isn’t hero-y, we should consider the world view of small minded people like kurt that can’t understand heroism- why should such a self serving guy think that his opponent would not run in face of certain death? Hell- Wen could do the exact same thing that kurt was planning- just start over again after the dragons leave using that huge mound of money.
