Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou!

Ichinomiya Shingo, a young 25 years old, single, company worker, while thinking of tomorrow’s busy working day goes to sleep. However the moment he woke up, it was a room unknown to him.

He then learned that he was inside a 6 years-old boy and had taken over his mind.

Furthermore he learned a lot from the memories of said boy: he was born as the youngest child (8th son and 10th child) of a poor noble family living in the back country. Having no administrative skill, he couldn’t do anything to manage the vast land his family has.

Fortunately, he was blessed with a very rare talent, talent of magic. Unfortunately, while his talent could bring prosperity to his family, in his situation it only brought disaster.

Yes, this is the story of the boy, Wendelin von Benno Baumeister, opening his own path in a harsh world.

Glossary

Some of the early chapters have been moved to this blog in their entirety. Reason for that is the easier navigation while reading and the issue of linking to inactive blogs. By no rights I claim ownership of those chapters, neither did I change or edit anything within them.

  1. Are you translating the web novel or the light novel? I can see that you’re linking the web novel as a raw source, but you’re also using some images from the light novel. It would be cool if you translated the light novel as it’s usually more refined than the web novel because the author gets a second chance to change the story before he publish it as a light novel.

    1. I do not plan to translate the Light Novel to avoid copyright issues if a publisher should decide to release it in America as happened to various other novels before.

If I were to decide going for the Light Novel I would have to obtain the permission of the author. Furthermore I would only do it if there was some benefit in me doing it.
I am well aware that Light Novels tend to have an improved feel and maybe some extra content here and there but so far its not enough reason to scale the aforementioned reason for not doing it.

As for the illustrations, the in-chapter ones are part of the repost of the other translators. I am not sure I will continue using illustrations myself especially as I have no source for those either.

Hope that answers your question some way or the other. 🙂

    1. I think you mixing up something here. Please check Hachi-nan: Short update

The numbering is now in accordance to the author’s numbering. All the missing chapters you mentioned were already added. (Thus I removed your previous comments as they might just confuse other readers)

  2. -edited-

Above comment has been removed alongside all illustrations on this site. If you wish to view the novel illustrations, there are various places in the net you can do so. 🙂

    1. There are 2 simple reasons speaking against me doing it actually:
      – I would need the permission of the original translator to change their translation as I dislike arbitrarily changing someone else’s work without at least having their okay to do so.

      – The English might be slightly bad in some chapters as some are drafts, but they are readable and get the story across.

Please, also remember that I would need allocate time to edit and eventually TLC the translated chapters, which would stop me from releasing new chapters of Hachinan for a while. That’s something I’d like to avoid in regards to aforementioned reasons.

I hope you can understand my reasoning in this. 🙂

      1. Uhmm… could I edit the old chapters(10 – 24) and send them to you? if so I can get them to you by Friday

          1. This may sound like a dumb question but, what should I email it as? text document, word document, google document, or something else?

  3. Please continue translate for new chapter, you don’t edit the old chapter. I hope I can read the new chapter soon, thank you for all your hard.

  4. I would feel a crushing guilt of having taken the body of a poor 6 years old kid. Its just like killing a little kid

      1. yeah ok thanks i was about to read it all over again just in case it was something different. too much free time hahaha. well only for today tomorrow work T.T

  5. Hola

I just want to say Thanks for your hard work, and ask

Do you have any intention to create a pdf and/or epub with the equivalent chapters to the LN version?

If the answer, can you say at last till who chapter take the first volume?

    1. PDF/epub, huh? Well I only translated 4 chapter of this series so far, so I think it is still a bit too early to consider it.
As for the LN version, I haven’t seen or read it at all, so I can’t really tell you how the web novel chapters are split into the LN volumes.
The current illustration in the ToC shows up to chapter 36 of the web novel at least though.

      Sorry, that I couldn’t help you. :-/

      1. If you don’t know, can’t be help

But if “The current illustration in the ToC” you mean the images a few messages above here, the 11 and last for me take tha chapter 26

  6. Woah, it started good, but became quite bad and these repeats of the same things over and over and over and over again…
Story is really mediocre. MC just stumbles on “goldmines” all the time.
Puff! Here is master magician, who appeared to teach him,
Poff! Here is sh@t tonn of things with magic bag,
Poff! Here is convinient magic craft of everything, because magic,
Poff! Here is standard cliche of school and sidekicks
Poff! Here is Tonns of money for all that stuff, that was in the bag and some more
Poff! Here is magical house with everything just like that!
Poff! Here is legendary dragon, that nobody saw for hell amout of time, that most don’t belive in them anymore.
Poff! Here is noble status, medal, money bla bla bla and some extra.
With so many “presents” why does he even need to become an adventurer? Why he even do some part-time jobs with his amout of money? Why he is constantly “worry” about his family, when he says, that he never return, that he will not help them etc?
Really…the story isn’t great and 1/3 of the chapter is constant reminder of what happened 1 chapter ago like we have memory problems

    1. Its only matter of perspective .. adventure seeing the world .. for unfortunate people money is an important object for them to get better life .. for those fortune people with money .. money is a tool to use to explore the limitless either use your wealth to increase your wealth or use your wealth for something greater exploretion ..

In this world where everything is already use or explore is new author job using same material but different recipe ..

Before saying mediocre .. think what you eat everyday .. burger? hotdog? .. our everyday life is a cycle of mediocre pork / beef and fish except you decide to eat something exotic but in the end those exotic in your perspective is nothing but mediocre for others .. simple if you don’t like it don’t read it .. No need for your unnecessary criticism and spoiler bad for new readers

In the end it only matter of perspective

      1. “Uguu, nobody can dislike thing I love.”
“Author is god, he’s always right. Nobody can say bad things about him.”

People write review for a reason, to say what they feel about that particular thing. New readers read review to know wheter it’s good or not before jumping in to read the series. It is by no mean ‘unnecessary’.

Do some critical thinking man. MC is rich and could give lots of money to his family, more than what they spend on raising him and his siblings. Good things always happens to him and he still feel worthless? Either he has crippling depression or other complex or he’s a total asshole.
Money could be used to explore, but wouldn’t it better to use it on those who needed it the most? In this case poor people that are less fortunate than him?

I call it what it is, this thing is like cigarettes. They are good for a while, but cancerous in the long run.

  7. Hi! I found your site while randomly browsing around, and noticed both you and sotranslations.wordpress.com were doing hachi-nan. Is there a ln/wn thing or just a mutual not knowing of eachother’s sites?

    1. I asked because it seems the chapters are split up differently than on sotranslations, but I found where it left off 😛

  8. I don’t know why but almost all the novels I am reading are slow on their updates probably due to school…

    1. Yea, really annoying that TL’s got a RL, I know. But if you work for the both of us and can guarantee me like 2k bucks every month, I will increase my TL pace for you. :p

    1. You are right. After reading the introduction summary of this series this more interesting then the Rising of the Shield Hero series. When it comes to political things.

  9. Can you please update faster? A lot of people are relying on you so please don’t fail us. We’re relying on you. The fact that people wants you to update faster proves that we have great passion to your work

  10. Thanks so much for the new chapter 34, while it took awhile I have not lost any interest in the story at all. I hope we will see more updates soon.

  11. I started reading this a week ago
And I’m quite confused about the name of【イーナ】
You translated it as “Ina”, but I found out the other use the name as “Irna”
But after I tried to input it on my Google Japanese Keyboard, it’s showed as “Ena”
I think the right one is Ena, since Ina is written as【イナ】, and Irna as【イルナ】

Anyway, I’m waiting for the appearance of Elise~
When will she appear in the WN? (≧▽≦)

    1. You are right about this, but the novel follows a German terminology in its naming. “Ena” isn’t any kind of German name, so I opted for “Ina” which sounds more like a German name. Well going by the English pronunciation “Ena” is equal to “Ina” and thus I will leave it like that.
As for Elise, her appearance should be soonish (no spoilers). 🙂

    1. I am aiming for every 2 weeks but it’s difficult with such long chapters. I am not going to claim any schedule for now as I have also my RL to worry about and that takes priority.

Ideally I am currently envisioning switching every week between Nidoume and Hachinan and assisting with Summoned Slaughterer in-between. Well, we shall see how it works out, shall we not? 😉

  12. Thanks for the transaltion, and one qüestion, Are the money conversion in cent of the euro coin sistem, or is some other value?

And I don’t know how is in the original version but the religion in the novel should be chalcedonian insteat of ortodox catolic, if its really a mix of the christeom brachs catolic and ortodox.

    1. Well, as for the money conversion I checked the raw when I added it to the Glossary and it was “Cent” without any explanation whether US or European or such, so I guess you a re free to choose for now? ^^
As for the faith I just followed what the author wrote in the raw, I am not too knowledgeable on different faiths and their branches but I don’t see any reason to change it either. I try to avoid interpreting the meaning of things as much as possible, so if the author says it is like the orthodox catholic church, then so be it. 🙂

      1. Well if the author says that, so be it, and for me is much better count in euros, so i will think in cent/euros.

PD: Thanks for the fast answer 🙂

    1. If you don’t read it, why would you care then? :O
In the first place no one tells you to donate the entire amount yourself.

The amount itself is calculated by the length of the chapters/interludes in the raws. If you don’t agree with it, you surely won’t be forced to donate.
Extra chapters mean to me translating stuff after coming home from working for 12 hours, thus I won’t complain if people don’t want the extra chapters/interludes either. 🙂

  13. expecting one volume or some chapter “interlude” for gaiden of wendellin’s sensei = alfred reinford
from his youth till his death and the fated encounter with young wendellin

  14. Thanks ^^
PS: The “Next chapter” link of chapter 18 sends at chapter 19 skipping interludio 1 & 2.

  15. I really liked the beginning of the series.. but somehow my hype was gone with the last chapters :/ I’ll try again after sometime. I wonder if it did the same to anyone else…?

    1. I’m not planning to.. though the next chapter has been delayed a bit due to anniversary, work, RL. Well, in summary, don’t worry. 🙂

  16. so… hows it hanging?
These last few chapters made me remember the time when MC made food, salt and various other stuff, something like 50000 jars of salt and more food stuff in the same amount.
I wonder if a small capital city slam migration + others, would like to follow our little MC to develop, his childhood playground, he can start by subjugating the mountain monster domain to establish a safer route, a few farming villages rice instead of wheat?, and make a strong move to “subjugate” the demon forest domain lord and cut a path to the sea for a port city with airship access
    The order is less importen
The main is he is well supplied before starting

  17. why not included some images? a bit hard for me to imagine it sometimes especially new chara. just asking tho, ty for the translate 🙂

  18. Hello, I would like to know if you are still working on this project. My native language is Spanish and I really do not want to try too hard if they have abandoned it …

  19. Thanks for the translation. I run a blog that makes epub/pdf and made one for this , if you want you can link it here. I already gave you credit for the TL and also linked here

    1. It’s one thing if a reader comes here posting a pdf/epub at this blog for the others and it’s a different thing for a blog to steal the work of others to make epubs/pdfs for their own releases.
Do you really think that I’m supporting aggregation sites?
I would welcome it if you could remove any pdfs/epubs hosting my translations from your blog.
People like you and other aggregation sites are the main reason for translators to cease translating web novels for free.
Your only luck is that I don’t possess the legal rights as translator else I would’ve already sent a lawyer your way.
Naturally I won’t link your site or even advertise it in any other way.

      1. hmm well as you wish , also since you want to hire a lawyer please do your homework before saying something like that . Did you ask the author if he gives you the right to translate the novel? No your just translating it and giving credit to the TL for his novel. Tell me whats different from what you do and my site? Am i selling your work like its mine? Or posting your works on my site for viewser to read? Im just posting epubs/pdf for people who want to read on the go and since your site doesn’t offer that option for you novel ive done one for that also if im not wrong THE ENGLISH VERSION THAT YOU TL HERE DOESN’T HAVE ANY COPYRIGHT so that basically means its free to share for whatever reason.
That may sound harsh from me since i do really respect you for TL it since i like novel and don’t know japan or chinese to TL them myself but calling me a thieft its not something i appreciate.
        Thanks

  20. “Your only luck is that I don’t possess the legal rights as translator else I would’ve already sent a lawyer your way.”
First read what I wrote and then comment on it. I never claimed to have any rights on the novel nor will I do so.
So yea, you are free to share it wherever and however you want, just like the other dozens of aggregator sites do.
But likewise I’m free to rebuke you for doing that as you didn’t even have the common decency to at least ask whether it’s okay, but just came here stating it as a fact and asking to be linked.
Ah and yea, I did ask the author, but, as in most cases, he didn’t answer which is, in my opinion, the smart approach because it might counter the interests and plans of the company releasing his Light Novels and would be legally binding, if I had the written permission from the author himself.
Well, if you think you are helping the translators with what you are doing, be assured, you don’t, but as you said yourself, none of us can hinder you.

  21. WHY!? Why after going though all the trouble of going though the trouble of creating a gold system for the story and then use Yen and Cents?????? It destroys the feeling of it being a story! if it continues I will stop reading!!!
